Introduction:
My parents aren't around much. Honestly, it feels like they're more like strangers who show up a few times a year rather than actual family. My dad is always busy. He started this massive law firm with his best friend when he was in his twenties, and now he's practically swimming in money. He's one of those guys who can walk into a room and make everyone stop and listen, but the thing is, he's never around long enough for me to really know him. When he does come home, it's for big holidays or events, but even then, he's distant, like he's more focused on his next deal or client than on us. He pays all of the bills and makes sure we have everything we need but is never emotionally there for us.
Mum's a different story. She's... well, I guess you'd call her a gold digger. She married my dad for his money, and it's pretty obvious that's all she really cares about. She's never been warm or loving not to any of us boys but with me, it's worse. She had six sons, but she always wanted a daughter. I think she resents us for not being what she wanted. But with me, it's like I'm the biggest disappointment of all. When I was born, there were complications with the birth as I was born premature. My mum had to have surgery, and after that, she couldn't have any more kids. She's made it clear that she blames me for that, like it's my fault she can't have the daughter she always wanted.
She's cruel, especially to me. She's always making cutting remarks, always looking at me like I'm some kind of mistake. I'm 15, but I look younger. People say I look like I'm 12 as I have a baby face and are really short. I'm shy and awkward, and being around her makes me feel even smaller. It's like she enjoys making me feel worthless. My older brothers have always been my protectors, my guardians. They're the ones who've raised me, really. When Mom and Dad are off living their lives, my brothers are the ones who make sure I'm okay. They're overprotective, maybe a little too much sometimes and theory baby me a lot, but I know it's because they care. They've always been there to shield me from Mom's cruelty, to pick up the pieces when her words cut too deep.
But no matter how much they try to help, it's hard not to feel like I'm the reason everything went wrong. Like I'm the reason Mom is the way she is. I wish I could be stronger, more confident, but it's hard when you've spent your whole life feeling like you're nothing more than a mistake. My brothers are my world, but there's always this voice in the back of my head telling me that I don't belong, that I'm just a burden they have to carry.
The is my life as the younger brother in a house of 5 other boys who are all older than me.

I woke up to the sound of my brothers' voices drifting up from downstairs. Which was weird because It was Saturday morning, and they usually slept in well except Elijah and Easton who always got up early. From the sound of it they were already all wide awake and probably causing some sort of chaos in the kitchen.
My bed was so warm and comfortable, but just as I was about to go back to sleep my stomach was growling, so I reluctantly threw off the covers and headed downstairs.
As I reached the bottom step, the usual scene unfolded in front of me all five of my older brothers gathered around the kitchen table, laughing and joking with each other. The teasing began the moment they noticed me.
"Look who finally decided to join us!" Miles called out as soon as he saw me. His smirk was all too familiar.
"Yeah, we thought you might sleep through the whole weekend," Alex added, grinning.
I rolled my eyes and headed for the fridge, trying to ignore them. "Morning to you too," I muttered, but before I could grab anything, Elijah looked up from his newspaper and gave me that annoyingly responsible look he always had.
"Don't forget, school starts on Monday," he said, like I could possibly forget with all of them constantly reminding me. "It's the last weekend of the holidays, so you'd better make sure you're ready."
I sighed, my stomach sinking at the thought. "Yeah, I know, Elijah. You've only told me about fifty times."
Easton chimed in from across the table. "Speaking of which, do you have everything you need for school? Or do we need to go shopping again?"
I hesitated, thinking about my beat-up old backpack that was practically falling apart at the seams but he really did not want to go to a busy mall. But he finnlay described after thinking for a bit that he really needed it.
"Actually... I could use a new backpack. The one I have is barely holding together."
"Of course it is," Henry said, grinning. "It's probably older than you are."
"Alright then," Elijah said, standing up and stretching. "Looks like we're all going to the mall today."
The twins exchanged a look, clearly excited by the prospect of causing trouble at the mall, while Henry just shrugged and went back to his phone. Easton looked pleased, probably because he liked any excuse to get out of the house.
Before I could move to make myself some breakfast, Elijah stepped in front of me. "I'll get your breakfast, Adrian," he said, heading for the stove. "You're not allowed near the kitchen after what happened last time."
The twins burst out laughing, and I felt my face heat up in embarrassment.
"It was one time!" I protested, but I knew it was no use. A couple of months ago, I'd accidentally put a metal bowl in the microwave and nearly set the whole kitchen on fire. My brothers never let me live it down.
"One time was all it took baby boy," Miles said, still laughing and smirking at the nickname he used as he knew I hated it.
"Yeah, you're banned from anything that involves heat, sharp objects, or basically any kitchen equipment," Alex added, smirking.
I slumped into a chair at the table, trying to ignore their laughter.
"Boys leave him alone" Elijah said, frowning at the twins to get them to leave me alone. "Here bunny" Elijah said as he handed me a plate of scrambled eggs and toast, and I muttered a thanks, even though I still felt like an idiot and didn't want to eat.
Miles and Alex both smirked at me at the use of Elijah's use of the nickname that they all call me as when I was younger and had a massive obsession with bunnies. Everything I had had to have a bunny on it which my brothers never let me live down.
"So, we're going to the mall after breakfast, right?" Easton asked, looking around the table.
"Yup, everyone get ready," Elijah said, finishing his coffee.
"And Bunny, try not to destroy anything before we leave," Henry said, smirking at him.
"Very funny," I grumbled, shoveling eggs into my mouth as the rest of them snickered. I could already tell it was going to be one of those days.
But at least I'd get a new backpack out of it and hope for some sweets. And maybe, just maybe, I'd survive the mall without any more incidents. Though with my brothers, nothing was guaranteed.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
I was pacing around my room, my heart racing as I tried to figure out what to wear. My brothers were all downstairs, waiting to go to the mall, but I couldn't focus. The thought of how busy it would be, how many people would be there, and how everyone always seemed to stare at us whenever we were all together made my stomach twist in knots. With five loud older brothers, we never went anywhere unnoticed, and the attention always made me feel like I was under a spotlight.
I rifled through my closet, pulling out shirt after shirt, but nothing felt right. I wanted to look good, but not like I was trying too hard. The more I thought about it, the more anxious I got. I was already taking too long, and I could imagine Miles and Alex getting impatient, probably planning new ways to tease me the moment I showed up.
Just as I was about to give up, there was a knock on my door. Easton stepped in, his expression softening when he saw the mess of clothes scattered around my room.
"Hey Bunny, what's going on?" he asked, concern lacing his voice. "Why are you taking so long?"
"I... I just can't figure out what to wear," I admitted, feeling embarrassed. "And, I don't know, I'm just not looking forward to going. It's going to be crowded, and everyone's going to be staring at us like they always do."
Easton nodded, understanding. "Yeah, I get it. It can be a bit much sometimes." He walked over to my closet, glancing through the clothes I hadn't already thrown on the floor. "But it's just the mall. We'll be in and out before you know it."
He pulled out a simple gray hoodie and a pair of jeans, holding them up for me. "Here, this'll work. And if you're not feeling any of your clothes, we can pick up some new stuff at the mall. No big deal."
I took the clothes from him, relieved that he'd helped me make a decision. "Thanks," I said, quickly changing into the outfit he'd picked.
"No problem," Easton said with a reassuring smile. "Just try to relax. We're all in this together, right?"
I nodded, feeling a little better as he headed back downstairs. I followed soon after, still a bit nervous but at least more prepared. When I got to the front door, my brothers were all waiting, their eyes on me as I sat down on the bench to put on my shoes.
Elijah, always the practical one, noticed me fumbling with my laces. "Here, let me help. It'll be quicker," he said, kneeling down to tie them for me.
Before I could protest, he was already lacing them up. Miles and Alex, of course, didn't miss the chance to pounce.
"Aww, how cute," Miles teased, leaning against the wall with a grin. "Little Addy still needs help with his shoes" he cooed.
"Such a baby," Alex added, nudging Henry, who just chuckled.
I felt my face burn with embarrassment, but I kept my mouth shut, knowing that anything I said would only make it worse. Elijah finished tying my shoes and gave me a pat on the shoulder, not seeming to notice or care about the teasing as he loved to baby me.
"There you go, all set," he said, standing up and grabbing his keys. "Let's get going."
I stood up, trying to ignore the lingering smirks from the twins and Henry as I grabbed my jacket from Easton. My heart was still racing, and I wasn't looking forward to the crowd or the stares we'd probably get, but at least I knew my brothers, annoying as they were, would be with me the whole time.
As we headed out the door, Elijah led the way, and I fell into step behind him, taking a deep breath to steady my nerves.

The car was filled with a heavy silence that made my chest tighten. I was crammed into the back seat, the very last row, with no one beside me, which only made the space feel smaller, more isolated. I could see the tops of my brothers' heads in front of me, but no one was saying anything. The only sounds were the soft tapping of Alex and Miles on their phones, the occasional rustle of Henry turning a page in his book, and the steady hum of the tires on the road.
Miles was right in front of me, slouched in his seat, his face illuminated by the blue light of his phone. He seemed completely absorbed in whatever he was doing, oblivious to everything else. Alex was next to him, in the middle row, his attention also locked onto his screen. Every so often, they'd both smirk or chuckle quietly, but they didn't share whatever was amusing them, and the sound only made me more aware of how disconnected I felt from everyone.
Henry, sitting next to Alex, was in his usual reading mode, eyes fixed on his book as if nothing could pull him out of it. I wished I could lose myself in something like that, but my thoughts were too restless, bouncing around in my head with nowhere to go.
Up front, Easton had his head leaned against the window, his eyes unfocused as he watched the scenery blur by. He looked so calm, like he was a million miles away, thinking about something far more important than this quiet car ride. I wanted to ask him what was on his mind, maybe start a conversation to ease the tension I felt, but the words stuck in my throat. It was hard enough just trying to keep my nerves in check.
Elijah was behind the wheel, driving with the same steady focus he always had. His hands were firm on the steering wheel, his eyes darting between the road and the mirrors, checking on us without saying a word. He was probably trying to make sure everyone was alright, but I couldn't help feeling like he could see right through me whenever our eyes met in the rearview mirror. I quickly looked away each time, afraid he might notice how anxious I was.
I sat there in the back, staring out the window but not really seeing anything, just trying to keep myself together. The quiet wasn't peaceful; it was the kind of silence that made everything feel more intense, like I was waiting for something to happen, even though I didn't know what. I wished someone would say something, anything, to break the tension that seemed to be building up inside me, but no one did.
Instead, we just kept driving, everyone wrapped up in their own world, while I was left alone with my racing thoughts, counting the minutes until we'd finally reach our destination. The silence stretched on, making the car ride feel longer
I wanted to break the silence, but I couldn't think of anything interesting to say. So, without really thinking, I blurted out, "Do fish ever get thirsty?"
The car went quiet for a second, and I immediately regretted it. Miles and Alex looked up from their phones, and even Henry glanced over his book at me.
Elijah shook his head with a smirk, trying to hide his amusement. "That's what you came up with to break the silence?" he asked, clearly trying not to laugh.
Henry didn't miss a beat. "Only when they're in saltwater," he said, deadpan. "Otherwise, they're perfectly hydrated."
I could feel my face heating up, but I tried to play it off. "Just thought I'd ask," I muttered, shrugging.
Easton, who had been looking out of the window, suddenly stopped and turned to Henry, who was sprawled out in the seat of the car, looking as laid-back as ever. "Do you have to be so sarcastic all the time?" Easton asked, his voice tinged with frustration.
I glanced up from my phone, curious to see how Henry would respond. Henry, with his usual smirk, didn't even hesitate.
"When people ask me stupid questions, it's my legal obligation to give a sarcastic remark," he shot back, his tone dripping with mock seriousness.
I couldn't help but chuckle at that. It was classic Henry never missing a chance to make a snarky comment, no matter the situation. Easton just sighed, shaking his head like he couldn't decide whether to be annoyed or amused.
"You know," Easton said, leaning against the side of the car, "not every question is stupid. Sometimes we're just trying to have a normal conversation."
Henry raised an eyebrow, still smirking. "And I'm just trying to make that conversation a little more interesting."
At this point, even Elijah couldn't keep a straight face. He turned around for a second, giving Henry a bemused look. "You mean a little more aggravating?"
"Tomato, tomahto," Henry said with a shrug, clearly enjoying himself.
I tried to hide my grin as I watched the exchange. It was moments like these that made life with my brothers both entertaining and exhausting. Henry's sarcasm was practically an art form at this point, and as much as Easton pretended to be annoyed, I knew he secretly enjoyed the back-and-forth.
"You're impossible," Easton finally said, throwing his hands up in mock surrender.
"Thank you," Henry replied, grinning as if he'd just won a prize.
I rolled my eyes but couldn't stop the smile that tugged at my lips. It was the same routine every time, but somehow it never got old. And as much as Henry's sarcasm could be a bit much, it was just part of who he was and, if I was being honest, part of what made our family dynamics work.
Easton chuckled, shaking his head. "Well, at least it got us talking."
Henry leaned back in his chair, grinning. "See? Stupid questions have their uses."
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
The car slowed down as we pulled into the mall parking lot, and my stomach did a nervous flip. Even from inside the car, I could tell the place was packed. Cars were lined up in every direction, and people were everywhere walking in and out of the stores, talking in groups, pushing strollers, and just generally being loud. The noise seeped in through the windows, a dull roar of activity that made me feel even more on edge.
Elijah navigated through the crowded lot, looking for a parking space. His grip on the steering wheel was steady, like he was totally unfazed by the chaos around us. Meanwhile, I was trying to keep my breathing calm, but it was hard not to get overwhelmed by how busy it was. I could already feel the weight of all those eyes that would inevitably turn our way the moment we stepped out of the car.
"Looks packed today," Easton muttered from the front seat, his gaze sweeping over the sea of people outside. I could hear the unease in his voice as he knew that all of the people would freak me out.
"Yeah, Saturdays are always like this," Elijah replied, his tone calm as ever. He finally spotted an open space near the back of the lot and smoothly pulled in. The engine went quiet as he turned off the car, and suddenly the only sound was the muffled noise of the crowd outside.
I sat there for a second, frozen, while my brothers started to unbuckle their seatbelts and get ready to go. I could see Alex and Miles already glancing at their phones again, probably planning to head straight to their favorite stores. Henry marked his place in his book before setting it aside, and Easton was checking his wallet, making sure he had everything.
"Alright, let's do this," Elijah said as he opened the driver's side door, his voice snapping me out of my thoughts.
I fumbled with my seatbelt, my hands suddenly clumsy, as I tried to shake off the nerves. Everyone else seemed so casual about it, like this was just another Saturday, but for me, it felt like stepping into a battlefield. The second I opened my door, the noise hit me full force: the chatter of people, the sound of car doors slamming, the distant rumble of engines.
I hesitated, still sitting in the back while my brothers were already getting out. Miles and Alex were the first to step onto the pavement, barely looking up from their phones as they started talking about which stores to hit first. Henry followed, stretching his arms and glancing around like he was already planning out his bookstore visit. Easton was last to leave the front, giving me a quick look as he shut the door behind him.
"You coming, Bunny?" Elijah asked, leaning down to peer into the car, his expression patient but expectant.
"Yeah, just... getting my stuff," I mumbled, finally stepping out of the car. The air outside was warm, the sun bright, and I squinted against the light, wishing I could just melt into the background. But with five older brothers around me, that was never an option.
I shoved my hands into my pockets, trying to keep my head down as we started walking toward the mall entrance. The crowd seemed even bigger now that we were in the middle of it, and I could feel my heart pounding in my chest. People were moving in every direction, and I tried not to bump into anyone as I stuck close to my brothers.
Elijah led the way, calm and confident, while Miles and Alex walked ahead, still absorbed in their own conversation. Henry was next to them, already eyeing the stores we were passing, and Easton hung back a bit, making sure I wasn't getting lost in the shuffle.
As we approached the entrance, the automatic doors slid open with a soft whoosh, and the noise of the mall washed over us. I took a deep breath, bracing myself for the overwhelming buzz of the crowded mall, and followed my brothers inside, hoping I could just get through this trip without losing my nerve.
