(A/N) A Quick message before I begin this story. As I've stated in the past, the last time I made a Pokémon story, a lot of people used it as "Inspiration" to make their own stories. However, a VAST majority believe inspiration means copying and pasting the original elements I wrote and added and simply doing the bare minimum of replacing a name or two and calling it a day.
I don't want to go through with that again and have to remove my story because everyone wanted to copy it for views and nothing more. So I would appreciate if people would not use my story as inspiration for yours and try and do your own thing... I worked extremely hard on this story and I don't want to see hundreds of copies of it floating around.
No one's POV
Pokémon...
These mysterious creatures can be seen everywhere on this planet-in the sea, in forests, in towns, and all over the world. People and Pokémon form various bonds and live together in this world. This is the story of such Pokémon and Pokémon Trainers...
Currently within the Kanto Region, a young girl by the name of Liko Floryn arrives at the bus station, eager to start her first day at Indigo Academy. Along the way, she encounters two girls and attempts to make friends, but her nerves get the better of her, and she misses the chance. When the bus arrives, she notices the girls are engrossed in a stream by Nidothing.
Liko's thoughts: (13 Years Old) That's Nidothing! I know her! Actually, I'm a fan too... And I'd like to tell them that... But I wouldn't know how to put it... So I'd better not...
With a sigh, Liko would look down a bit saddened due to her shyness holding her back from making an attempt an interacting with them.
Liko's thoughts: It's always like this. I get so caught up in what might happen. I totally freeze up...
While still riding on the bus, Liko marvels at the many Pokémon she sees roaming outside in awe.
Liko's thoughts: My first time in the Kanto Region... There are so many Pokémon I've never seen before! I'm amazed!
As Liko continues to look on amazed, suddenly something would catch her eye.
Liko: Huh?
In the distance, Liko could only make out what appeared to be a violet colored motorcycle in the distance, along with the driver, not wearing a helmet.
Liko's thoughts: Ehhhh? Why is that person driving a motorcycle there of all places? They could also get hurt while not wearing a helmet!
As Liko continued to look on, her eyes widened when the motorcycle had suddenly disappeared from sight.
Liko's thoughts: Huh? W-Where did it go?
(Timeskip)
At the academy, Liko would make her way to her assigned room, room 303 but is startled to find someone already there. She dashes out in fright, checking if she had the right room, to which she quickly confirmed she did.
Suddenly, the person inside, named Anne, introduces herself and shares that she has never left Kanto. In turn, Liko reveals that she has never left Paldea. Upon talking further, the two would become quick friends.
At the academy grounds, many students are busy tending to their Pokémon, while another two are in a battle. One Trainer's Machoke uses [Dynamic Punch] on another Trainer's Espeon, who uses [Reflect] and follows-up with [Psychic] to win the battle.
Anne: (13 Years Old) Wasn't that move amazing?!
Liko: Yeah.
Liko's thoughts: Will I get to have battles like that too, someday?
Anne: So hey... After the Entrance Ceremony. It'll finally be time, y'know?
Liko: Time? For what?
Anne: What else? Our partner Pokemon!
Hearing this, Liko would look surprised, realizing that was correct and that she would be given a Partner Pokémon.
Liko's thoughts: Right! A partner... My own Partner Pokémon...! My heart's been racing so much, I've avoided thinking about that... No! I can't! If I do that...!
Anne: Liko, how'd your interviews and stuff go?
Liko's thoughts: My interviews...
Thinking back to her interviews with the staff prior to coming to Indigo Academy, Liko would become a bit worried, hoping she was able to properly get her thoughts across.
Liko: They were tense, I guess...
Anne: Just how it goes.
Suddenly the two were interrupted by a soft rustling sound. Both girls turned their heads in unison, their conversation momentarily forgotten. From behind a nearby bush, a Pokémon emerged, Liko's eyes widened in disbelief.
Liko: E-Ehhh?! An Umbreon?!
Anne's gaze followed Liko's, and her mouth fell slightly open.
Anne: No way!
The Umbreon tilted her head, her eyes studying the girls with curiosity.
Umbreon: Umbre?
Liko felt an instinctive urge to approach her. Slowly, she outstretched her hand, palm open, as she knelt down to her level. To her delight, the Umbreon leaned forward, allowing Liko to pet her.
Umbreon: Bre!
A soft smile spread across Liko's face.
Liko: You're so cute..!
She exclaimed, her cheeks flushing a deep shade of pink. Anne chuckled, watching her friend's reaction, as Liko giggled. A few moments passed in blissful silence as Liko continued to pet the Umbreon, before the moment was abruptly broken by a voice calling from a distance.
???: Umbreon, let's go!
The Umbreon perked up at the sound of her name and swiftly turned around, bounding back toward the voice.
Liko: W-Wait... Don't go...!
Liko called out, a bit saddened to see Umbreon go. As the Umbreon reached the figure who had called her.
???: Already exploring, huh?
Umbreon: Bre!
As Umbreon looked at their trainer happily,
Liko squinted to get a better look. The person was wearing in a Mesagoza Academy uniform, surprising her.
Liko: M-Mesagoza Academy...?
Anne noticed Liko's sudden change in demeanor and raised an eyebrow.
Anne: What's wrong?
Liko pointed towards the trainer, her voice filled with a mix of awe and confusion.
Liko: That person is wearing a Mesagoza Academy uniform...
Anne turned her head to look, her eyes narrowing as she tried to see the figure clearly.
Anne: Wow, you're right! I wonder why they're out here instead of at the academy?
Liko: I wonder too...

The following day, as the ceremony concludes and classes are taken, the homeroom teacher handed out Rotom Phones to each student. Besides functioning as a regular smartphone, the Rotom Phone also served as a Pokédex, a town map, a news reader, and a device for transferring Pokémon. Afterwards, the teacher would make an announcement.
Teacher: Before we begin handing out the Partner Pokémon, there's someone who I'd like to introduce you all too. Please come in.
At that moment, the door would slide open and much to Liko's shock, the student from Mesagoza Academy would walk inside, along with his Umbreon. He had black hair and blue eyes.
Teacher: This year we are partnering with Mesagoza Academy in the Paldea Region in an Exchange Student program. Please introduce yourself.

DO NOT REUSE)
???: (15 Years Old) Sure. My name's Liam, I'm now a Second Year within Mesagoza Academy and I figured this Exchange Student program would help me branch out and expand my horizons. So I hope you'll all bear with me.
(A/N) Liam's custom uniform much like Penny. He has a purple tie for UVA Dorm and he's wearing fingerless gloves
These are his shoes.
Teacher: Liam is also a Top Student as well. So he will be serving as a Senior Trainer to everyone here. Please be sure to set a good example for your classmates.
Liam: Right.
As the teacher spoke, Liam felt the attention of the entire class focus on him. Some eyes
were filled with respect, while others seemed more challenging, as if trying to size him up, causing him to sigh internally. Liko on the other hand would continue to be both surprised and a bit intimidated.
Liko's thoughts: E-Eh..?! A Top Student from Mesagoza Academy is going to be my Senior...?!
Teacher: Now, with introductions out of the way, we will hand out your partner Pokémon. When your name is called, please come forward to receive your Pokémon.
The teacher's announcement filled the classroom with a mix of tension and excitement, excluding Liam. Some students even started preparing to stand up before their names were called.
Liam: Heh.
Liam chuckled softly at the sight. As the students would be called up one by one,
Anne picks Totodile, while Liko ends up
picking Sprigatito. Liko is charmed by Sprigatito's cuteness, but she rebukes her and wanders off, causing her to chase after it. Something which Liam noticed.
Liam: Hmm?
As the teacher finished speaking, Liam quickly stepped out into the hallway before anyone could approach him. He glanced around, trying to remember which direction Liko had went, before he spotted a familiar hairstyle heading down the stairs.
Liam's thoughts: That her?
Liam decided to follow. If it wasn't her, he could end up missing her in the crowd, but if it was, he might catch up. Trusting his instincts had saved him many times on his journey, and he decided to trust them now. However...
Liam: ...-_-... Annnnd I lost her...
Descending the stairs, he found the first floor crowded with students, making it difficult to navigate. He tried to weave through the crowd, looking for the girl he thought was Liko, but she was nowhere to be seen.
Liam: I guess I'll have to go-
???: Ahhh!!!
Liam: Hmm?
Out of nowhere,
a girl fell from above, and Liam barely managed to catch her. He silently thanked his heightened reflexes, honed during his travels. Looking at his arms, Liam saw it was Liko.
Liko's thoughts: I thought I was done for...
Liam: ...-_-... You know, I understand you just got your Rotem Phone, but you seem a bit too eager to test the Emergency Descend feature...
Umbreon: Umbre...
Liko: S-Sorry! Wait, L-Liam Senpai?! Oh no, where's Sprigatito?
Liam: Isn't that her over there?
Liam scanned the area and pointed out a small green Pokémon heading toward some bushes.
Liko: Wait! I need to catch up to her!
Liam: I see. Shall we chase her like this?
Liam said with a chuckle, confusing Liko.
Liko: What?
Liko suddenly realized her current situation.
When she had fallen from the rooftop, Liam had caught her in a princess carry.
Liko: Ahh! Senpai, put me down!
Liam: Alright, alri-Ahhh!
Embarrassment welled up inside Liko, causing her to shriek, mistakenly hitting him in the face.
Liam: Ow...
Liko: S-Sorry, Senpai...!
Liam: I-It's fine... But we should probably hurry if we want to catch your Sprigatito...
Liam would respond, rubbing his face.
Liko: Oh, right! We have to hurry!
They quickly resumed their chase, heading into the bushes after the Pokémon. Emerging on the other side, they found themselves by a large lake.
Liko: Wow...
Liam: This is...
Both of them were struck by the beauty of the scene. The setting sun cast a red glow over the lake, enhancing its splendor. For a moment, they forgot about the Pokemon as they were captivated by the view. Just then, the Pokémon they were chasing emerged from another set of bushes. It seemed they had inadvertently overtaken it.
Liko: Sprigatito! I'm so glad!
Sprigatito: Meow?
Liko hugged Sprigatito, rubbing her cheek against her in joy.
Sprigatito: Meow!
She then tried to smell Sprigatito, but the Pokémon,
perhaps overwhelmed by the affection, responded with a playful swat of its paw.
Liko: Why...?
Upon seeing this, Liam couldn't help but chuckle.
Liam: You seem to be having a hard time.
Liko: Ugh...
At that moment, Umbreon would walk up to Sprigatito, smiling at it. Sprigatito would surprisingly become quick friends with her, much to Liko's surprise.
Liko: Eh?! So quickly!
Liam: Yeah. Umbreon tends to always try and befriend shy or distant Pokemon. She's very friendly.
Liko: They're so cute...
Liam: Since we were able to find Sprigatito, we should probably head back soon. Uh...
Liko: O-Oh! I'm sorry...! My name is Liko.
Liam: Liam. But I guess you already knew that.
They had spent a lot of time chasing after Sprigatito, and considering the dorm's curfew, they needed to hurry back. However before they began to make their way back, Liam stopped her.
Liam: Wait.
As they stood up, Liam grabbed Liko's hand, surprising her and causing her to blush.
Liko's thoughts: Huh? What? Why is Liam Senpai holding my hand?!
Liam: Your hand is bleeding, isn't it? Let me see.
Liko: Oh, um, okay..
Liko's thoughts: Oh, that's what it was. What was I thinking?
Liam noticed the wound on Liko's hand and took out some antiseptic and bandages from his bag, preparing to treat it.
Liko: Do you always carry that with you?
Liam: Yeah, when you're traveling, you get a lot of scrapes and cuts. It's more convenient to keep this stuff at hand.
Liko's thoughts: That makes sense. Liam Senpai has traveled a lot as Top Student... I guess he's used to this sort of thing? Wait...
Liko: How did you know I was hurt? It's not a big wound...
Liam: I saw it when you fell from the rooftop.
Liko's thoughts: What? How did he notice that in such a brief moment?
Liko felt skeptical, but it was the truth. To be precise, he had only seen it that way at the time, he became certain she was injured when he saw her favoring her hand several times while they were chasing Sprigatito through the bushes. Liko disinfected Liko's hand with practiced ease and finally put a bandage on it.
Liam: There. All done.
Liko: T-Thank you...
Liko's thoughts: Liam Senpai's hands are warm...
Liam: You should replace the bandage in a day or two. If you leave it on too long, it can cause irritation.
Liko: Okay, I got it..
After the treatment, the two of them, along with Sprigatito and Umbreon made their way back to the dorm through the bushes they had entered. As they did, Liko would look towards Liam nervously, before working up the nerve to speak up.
Liko: Hey, Liam Senpai...
Liam: Hmm?
Liko: How can I become friends with Sprigatito?
Liam: Well...
Liam could quickly tell that Liko wasn't the type to act on intuition. She preferred to think things through before taking action. However, she often overthought things, which caused her to hesitate. Telling someone like Liko to act without thinking was unreasonable.
Liam: First, get to know Sprigatito, and let Sprigatito get to know you.
Liko: Get to know Sprigatito and myself...
Liko's thoughts: That sounds difficult. I don't even understand myself that well...
Liam: Is that too hard?
Liam would say with a chuckle, surprising Liko.
Liko's thoughts: Huh? Did I say that out loud?!
Liam: It's written all over your face. I think you're probably more transparent than you realize.
Liko: ...
Liam would simply chuckle once again, before kneeling down to Sprigatito, slowly extending his hand towards it. After a moment, Sprigatito approached Liam, sniffing his hand, before allowing him to pet her, completely shocking Liko.
Liko: Eh?!
Liam: It might not be as easy as just saying it. But there's no need to rush it. You have plenty of time. Just take it slowly, get to know each other, and communicate.
Liko: Wow, you know so much... I'm a little jealous...
Liam would just chuckle.
Liam: I learned a lot from my dad and grandfather when I was little. Plus I've definitely been where you're at with one of my Pokémon when we first met. He was a little brat. But we got very close eventually. You will too and that'll help you discover things you'd like to do together.
Liko: Yeah. Thank you, Liam Senpai.
Liam: Of course.
As they walked back to the dorm, Liam and Liko continued to discuss how to bond with
Sprigatito and what steps she could take as a Pokémon Trainer in the future, along with Liam guiding her and pointing her in the correct direction.
(Timeskip)
After parting ways with Liam in front of the dormitory, Liko was writing in her diary in her room.
Liko's thoughts: Anyway, my life with Sprigatito has started... but I'm feeling anxious...
Liko had spent the entire day being completely overwhelmed by Sprigatito. Feeling anxious was probably understandable.
Liko: Haah.
Liko sighed and unconsciously touched the bandage on her right hand.
Liko: Liam Senpai's hands were warm...
Touching the bandage made Liko think of Liam
On the day they first met, she had been carried princess-style and had her hand held by him. Remembering all this made Liko's face turn bright red.
Liko's thoughts: So embarrassing... I can't write about this in my diary, no matter what...!
While it was largely Liko's own fault, from her perspective, the embarrassment overshadowed any thoughts about blame.

No one's POV
It's now the next day and with no particular plans, Liam would be taking a stroll with Umbreon. As they were walking, they discovered a battle taking place in the courtyard's battlefield.
Umbreon: Bre?
Liam: Hmm?
Among the students watching the battle, Liam spotted Liko was the one actually battling, surprising him.
Liam: Is that Liko?
The girl she was battling was another girl with a distinct feature of fangs and loose socks, who happened to be Anne. As she and Liko were have a Pokémon battle, it ended up being inconclusive after Totodile manages to hit Sprigatito with [Water Gun], resulting in Liko coddling Sprigatito. Seeing this, Liam would sigh, before walking over to the two.
Liam: You know, you can't finish a battle if you do that, right?
Liko and Anne would look over and saw Liam approaching them, surprising Liko.
Liko: Ah, Liam Senpai!
Liam: Yo.
Seeing Liko casually talking to their senior with no difficulty, Anne would look at her surprised.
Anne: Wow! You're talking to Senpai with no trouble? Did I miss something? When did you become friends?
Liko: Yeah. Uh, friend?
Liam: ...-_-... I'd prefer it if you said 'friend' without the question mark...
Liko: S-Sorry! I'm still not good at understanding the distance with friends...
Anne: Then let's all officially be friends. Nice to meet you, Senpai! I'm Anne, Liko's roommate.
Liam: Nice to meet you. And there's no need for either of you to call me "Senpai". Liam's fine.
Anne: Gotcha, Liam!
As Anne cheerfully introduced herself and extended her hand for a handshake. Liam responded with a handshake, and Anne enthusiastically shook his hand up and down.
Liam's thoughts: She's a lively one... Reminds me of a certain junkie I know...
(Timeskip)
After the incident at the lake the other day, Liko started observing Sprigatito as per Liam's advice.
She followed Sprigatito around all day, noting its actions, what it liked, and her favorite spots.
Liam's thoughts: ...-_-... I did say to start by learning, but just following and taking notes is really diligent...
However, Liko's method seemed fine to him. She had thought about it and decided on a course of action. Doing something was definitely better than doing nothing. But Liko's physical abilities were no different from an ordinary girl's, so she often got left behind by Sprigatito.
Liam: What's up? Did Sprigatito go off somewhere again?
Liko: Yeah. But Sprigatito has a few favorite sunbathing spots. I think I can find her there.
Liam: Oh?
Liam was the one who advised Liko to learn about Sprigatito. He was genuinely impressed that she had gathered so much information in just a few days.
Liko: Well, I'm off to find Sprigatito!
Liam: Alright, good luck.
Liko: Thanks!
As Liko set off to find Sprigatito, and Liam watched her go.
Liam's thoughts: I'm a little worried, but I'll let her handle it for now.
Truthfully, Liam wanted to help her search. But since Liko was trying hard to learn about Sprigatito, he decided to trust and watch over them instead of just lending a hand.
By the time the dorm curfew had passed, Liam was sneaking out of the dormitory. He didn't have a particular reason, he just couldn't sleep and felt like seeing the lake again. He moved stealthily, avoiding the guards' gaze, making no noise, and taking care not to be seen. Sneaking out of the school grounds and heading into the bushes, Liam and Umbreon soon saw the lake again.
This time, the lake reflected the starry sky, offering a different kind of beauty from what he saw in the evening. While he was momentarily captivated by the sight, he heard a familiar voice a little distance away.
???: Sprigatito, [Leafage]!
Sprigatito: Meow!
Umbreon: Bre?
Liam: Hmm?
Green leaves began to sprout from Sprigatito's neck, but they quickly faded away.
Liko: Hmm. No good, huh?
As expected, it was Liko and Sprigatito. It looked like they were training.
Liam's thoughts: Training even at night? She's got more grit than I thought. But...
Liko looked dejected as the move failed, and Sprigatito, seemingly bored, started scratching its claws on a nearby rock.
Liam's thoughts: It seems like they've gotten closer, but their coordination still needs work.
It was true that building a strong bond would take time. However, having a good role model could help them progress.
Liam's thoughts: I just decided to watch over them, but maybe I should help a little... But first...
Liam mischievously sneaked up behind Liko and took a deep breath before shouting loudly.
Liam: Hey! Do you know what time it is? Students should be back in the dormitory!
Liko: EEK!!!!! I'm sorry!
Liko instinctively bowed to the voice behind her, then slowly looked up at her scolder, seeing him smiling.
Liko: ...
Liam: You shouldn't be breaking curfew, didn't take you as a delinquent.
Liko: Liam Senpai...what are you doing?
Liam: Pretending to be a strict dorm supervisor.
Realizing she was being teased, anger started welling up inside Liko.
Liko: Geez! You really scared me!
Liam: Haha.
Liko: Don't laugh it off!
Liko began to lightly hit Liam, but it didn't seem to affect him, as he continued to laugh.
Liam: Sorry, sorry. So, you were training Sprigatito's moves?
Liko: ...Yeah. But it looks like Sprigatito got bored, so I thought I'd call it a day.
Sprigatito: Meow?
Umbreon: Umbreon!
Umbreon would walk up to her, nuzzling her, to which Sprigatito reciprocated.
Liam: Really? Well, then I have something good to show you both.
Liko: Hmmm?
Liam: Come on out.
Liam reached into his Pokéball belt and took out one and tossed it into the air. While in tbt air would a Lucario come out, surprising Liko and Sprigatito.
Lucario: Luca!
(A/N) Liam's Lucario's base height is 4′03, the size of the Mega Form.
Liko: What kind of Pokémon is that?
Liko pulled out her Rotom Phone to look up information about the Pokémon.
Rotom Phone: Lucario, The Aura Pokémon. Fighting/Steel Type.
It's said that no foe can remain invisible to Lucario, since it can detect Auras even those of foes it could not otherwise see. It can tell what people are thinking. Only Trainers who have justice in their hearts can earn this Pokémon's trust.
Liam: This is my Starter, Lucario. He's also the brat I mentioned before.
Upon hearing this, Lucario would look towards Liam annoyed.
Lucario: Luca?!
Even Liko, who was still a novice Trainer, and her low-level Sprigatito could tell that the Lucario before them was incredibly strong.
Liko: Wow...
Liam: Now, watch closely.
Liam exchanged a knowing look with Lucario, then turned to face the lake.
Liam: Lucario, [Aura Sphere]!
Lucario: Luca!
Forming a sphere of Aura in his paws, Lucario would throw it toward the lake, splitting the water and sending a massive spray into the air.
Liko: ...Amazing...
Sprigatito: Meow!
Liko was left speechless by the sheer power of the [Aura Sphere] while Sprigatito watched the display with sparkling eyes at the power and skill of Lucario.
Liam: [Aura Sphere] is a move that takes a ton concentration to pull off. I think that's where you and Sprigatito are lacking. You just need to focus and believe in one another.
Liko: I see... What do you think, Sprigatito?
Sprigatito: Meow!
At that moment, Sprigatito began jumping repeatedly in front of Liko, showing its enthusiasm.
Sprigatito: Meow, meow, meow!
Liko: Sprigatito?
Liam: Seems like she's raring to go to master [Leafage]. What do you think, Liko?
Liko: I...
Liko's thoughts: So, Liam Senpai did this for...
Liko: Okay! Let's continue! Let's go, Sprigatito!
Sprigatito: Meow!
Liko and Sprigatito resumed their training.
With occasional advice from Liam and demonstrations from Lucario, their progress was much faster than when it was just the two of them. And then...
Liko: Sprigatito, [Leafage]!
Sprigatito: Meow!
Multiple leaves emerged from Sprigatito and struck the target rock.
Liko: We did it! We did it, Sprigatito!
Sprigatito: Meow!
Overjoyed, Liko and Sprigatito hugged each other in celebration. Watching them, Liam and Lucario also quietly bumped fists to share in the success.
Liko: Liam Senpai, Lucario! Thank you, it's all thanks to you two!
Sprigatito: Meow!
Liam: You're welcome. But it's because you and Sprigatito worked hard. Right, Lucario?
Lucario: Luca.
Lucario said with a nod and smile.
Liko: Hehe.
Liko smiled brightly, showing just how seriously she had been training. However, the next moment, she suddenly sat down as if her legs had given out.
Liko: Huh? What?
Liam: Hey, are you okay?
Liko: Yeah... I just suddenly lost my strength...
Liam: Doesn't look like you're hurt.
Liam conducted a quick check but found no injuries. Most likely, Liko had pushed herself past her physical limits due to her intense focus on the training.
Liam: Let's rest for a bit. Then we'll head back to the dorm so you can get a good night's sleep.
Liko: Yeah, I'll do that...
(Timeskip)
From that day on, the lake became a secret training spot for Liam and Liko. They would sneak out after school and at night to help her practice moves. As time passed, Liam would also mentor other younger students. Eventually, the students were about to experience their first extended break.
Currently near the lake by Indigo Academy, Liam and Liko snuck out of the dorm again tonight for another training session, as the two were currently taking a break.
As Liam and Liko drank the bottled water they brought, Umbreon would be resting her head on Liam's lap, while he rubbed her head.
Lucario would be sitting up against a rock,
while Sprigatito rested on top of his head. Lucario looked slightly bemused as Sprigatito began grooming herself while resting on his head.
Lucario: Rio?
Liko: Sorry! Sprigatito, get down!
Liam: It's fine, don't worry about it. He's really grown fond of her.
Since the day they started training, Sprigatito often clung to Lucario. Watching Lucario's incredible power had apparently left quite an impression on Sprigatito.
Liam: Gotta admit. You've improved a lot. Not long ago, you could barely hit a stationary rock.
Liko: R-Really?
Liam: You should probably move to moving targets soon. Why not challenge some of the other students to a battle?
Among the new students, there wouldn't be a significant level difference. Thanks to training with Liam, Sprigatito's level was slightly higher than other freshmen's Pokémon. Battling lower-level opponents would be good experience. At this academy, it wouldn't be hard to arrange battles during classes.
Liko: I've battled Anne a few times...
Liam: What about anyone else?
Liko: ...
Liam: ...-_-... Have you seriously only battled Anne...?
Liko: B-But...
Just when she seemed brave, she would become shy and introverted in unexpected ways.
(Timeskip)
4 Months Later....
At the bus parking lot of Indigo Academy, many students gathered with their luggage, preparing to go home for their Summer break. Liam and Liko had decided to stay at the academy, but they came to see off Anne.
Anne: (14 Years Old) It's been so long since I've been home. I'm gonna laze around!
Liam: (16 Years old) As usual.
Anne: And I need to introduce Totodile to my
parents.
Totodile: Totodile! Toto!
Totodile also seemed excited to meet Anne's parents, cheerfully responding from atop
Ann's bag.
Anne: Liko, Liam, you're not going home for the break?
Liko: (14 Years old) I think it's fine for now. My parents are probably busy.
Liam: Yeah, my parents are probably traveling for work as well...
Liko: Huh? What do they do for a living?
Hearing this, Liam would scratch his cheek, trying to avoid the question.
Liam: Eh, I rather not get into it...
Anne: I see, I see. So you'll both be here together.
Liko: Yeah, Liam Senpai's reliable, so I'll be fine.
Anne: Reliable, huh? Hehe, Liko...
Liko: W-What? Anne, why do you look so mischievous?
Anne: Never mind that. Come here, come here.
Anne beckoned Liko closer and whispered just loud enough for her to hear, but not Liam.
Anne: Since it's just the two of you, you have to make a good impression!
Liko: H-Huh?? N-No! I told you, it's not like that!
Anne: Let me know how far you've gotten when you get back!
Liko: Geez, Anne...!
While the two girls were having their secret conversation, Liam was left out, only able to tell that they were having a lively discussion, causing him to raise a brow.
Liam: What are you talking about?
Liko: N-Nothing at all!
Anne: Too bad! Girls' talk is a secret from the boys!
Liam: ...-_-...Uh huh...
Rolling his eyes, Liam and Umbreon leave the two to their conversation. Upon returning to his room, he would receive a call on his Rotom Phone, seeing that it was his mom.
Liam: Mom?
Upon answering the call, Liam would begin to have a conversation with his mom. He would learn that his dad, along with her were wondering how his time abroad was going, among other things. As the two would continue to speak for a bit, his Rotom Phone started ringing once again, seeing it was from Liko.
Liam's thoughts: Hmm? Liko?
Liam: Sorry, mom. My friend is calling. Give me sec?
Hearing this, Liam's mom would give him a grin from the screen.
Mom: Oh? A friend? Does this friend happen to be a girl?
Liam's thoughts: ...-_-... Oh, again with this?
As Liam and his mom said his goodbyes, he'd pick Liko's call, and saw her face on the screen.
Liam: Liko? What's u-
Liko: Liam Senpai, help me!
She cut him off, sounding extremely distressed. It was clear that something serious was happening.
Liam: Calm down. What's going on?
Liko: There's a suspicious person at the dorm right now. They claim to know my grandma, but they seem really shady and...
Liam: Liko, where are you right now?
Liko: I'm still in my room. I told them to wait outside, but...
Suddenly, Liko's voice cut off, and all Liam could hear were unsettling noises.
Liam: Liko! Liko! Are you okay?!
Liko: I'm okay, I think. The person came to my room, so I climbed out the window and onto the roof..
Liam: Stay hidden there. I'm coming right now. Let's go, Umbreon!
Umbreon: Bre!
As Liam ended the call, grabbed his bag and bolted out of his room, heading straight for the girls' dormitory. After a few minutes, he made it there, but saw no signs of Liko.
Liam: Damn it, where is she...?!
Umbreon: Bre!
Liam looked towards Umbreon and saw where she was looking. Following her gaze, Liam quickly saw Liko on the roof, being cornered by a boy around his age.
Liam's thoughts: Who the hell is that?
Liam: Umbreon, [Psychic]!
Not wasting any time, Umbreon would use [Psychic] on Liam, quickly throwing him onto the roof where Liko was being cornered by a, landing in front of her, while Umbreon quickly climbed up as well.
Liam: Sorry to keep you waiting, Liko.
Umbreon: Umbre!
Liko: Liam Senpai! Umbreon!
Liam: I've been looking for you everywhere... What part of stay hidden didn't you get?
Liko: S-Sorry...!
???: Who are you?
Liam turned his attention to the voice who addressed him, seeing he seemed to be the leader of the trio after Liko. He had purple eyes. Along with his black and silver hair color.
Liam: I should be asking you that. Why are you targeting Liko?
???: (16 Years old) We're not interested in her. We only want the pendant.
Liam: The pendant?
Liam looked at Liko, noticing the pendant hanging around her neck, something she didn't usually wear.
Liam: Why do you want this?
???: It's none of your business. Hand it over, and we'll let you go.
Liam: You're looking down on us quite a bit, aren't you?
While Liam was talking, Liko was clutching the pendant tightly with both hands. Liam glanced at her.
Liam: Liko, is that pendant important to you?
Liko: Yeah... it's a charm from my grandmother...
Liam: I see...
From her reaction, Liam understood that it was indeed a precious item to Liko. His answer was clear.
Liam: Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you're not getting near it.
???: I see. Don't regret it.
With that, the young man took a Pokéball from his waist. Emerging from the ball was a humanoid Pokémon clad in a blue-purple
armor, resembling a dark knight.
???: Soll!
Liam: A Ceruledge, huh? Alright then, Lucario! Let's go!
Liam would say, throwing out his own Pokéball, calling out his Lucario.
Lucario: Luca!
Upon seeing Lucario, the boy's eyes narrowed.
???'s thoughts: Type-wise, we have the advantage... but the strength emanating from that Lucario is considerable. I can't be careless...
Both Liam and the boy assessed each other's Pokémon, recognizing that their opponent was a skilled Trainer. They understood that even a moment of complacency could decide the battle.
Liam's thoughts: I need to buy time for Liko and Sprigatito to escape.
Liam: Lucario, [Meteor Mash]!
In an instant, Lucario rushed forward towards Ceruledge, drawing his paw made into a fist back, as it became shrouded with silver steely energy.
???: Dodge it and use [Shadow Claw]!
Ceruledge quick to react sidestepped gracefully, avoiding the brunt of the assault while preparing to counter. With a flick of its wrist, Ceruledge retaliated with a slashing [Shadow Claw], its blade glowing with a malevolent energy.
Liam: Lucario, dodge!
Lucario narrowly evaded the strike, feeling the rush of wind as the attack sliced through the space where he had just stood. As this happened, Liam glanced back towards Liko.
Liam: Liko, we'll hold him off. You go ahead. Umbreon, go with her.
Liko: Liam Senpai... but-
Liam: No buts, go!
Seeing how serious Liam was, reluctantly, Liko left Liam and Lucario.
Liko: Please don't get hurt...
As Liko began heading up the clock tower to avoid being a burden, the boy would notice this.
???: Wait!
Liam: [Aura Sphere]!
Seizing the moment, Lucario gathered aura in his paws, before unleashing a powerful [Aura Sphere], that surged forth, toward Ceruledge's direction.
Seeing this, Ceruledge, with a flicker of its flames, it executed [Bitter Blade], absorbing the energy of the attack and converting it into a counterstrike. The two powerful moves collided in a brilliant explosion of light, illuminating the rooftop and sending shockwaves through the air.
Liam: [Bone Rush]!
Lucario, unfazed, quickly regained its footing. It lunged forward, Lucario forms two blue bone Escrima sticks. With precision, its aura-enhanced bone extending as it struck at Ceruledge.
Ceruledge attempted to evade but was caught off guard by the relentless onslaught of super effective slashes. The strikes sent Ceruledge staggering back.
???: [Psycho Cut]!
In a moment of desperation, Ceruledge focused its psychic energy and unleashed [Psycho Cut]. Sharp blades of psychic force whirled toward Lucario, who braced itself, narrowly dodging the slicing attacks.
Liam: End this! [Extreme Speed]!
???: What?!
Lucario dashed forward, his agile form cutting through the air like a dart, a blue aura shrouding him.
With a swift motion, it unleashed a powerful [Extreme Speed], hitting Ceruledge with a flurry of strikes, dealing significant damage, pushing him back further, surprising everyone. A moment later, Ceruledge's armor would glow, before his speed would increase.
Liam's thoughts: [Weak Armor]?
???: How...? Normal Type moves are ineffective against Ghost Types...!
Liam: Guess this is your first time fighting a Lucario. Lucario's Aura allows him to bypass that trait of Ghost Types.
(A/N) Think of Aura as Haki from One Piece. If a Pokémon can wield it properly, they can hit Ghost Types with Fighting and Normal moves, as if they have the Scrappy Ability.
Hearing this, the boy would narrow his eyes in irritation. Liko on the other hand looked at him in awe.
Liko's thoughts: Liam Senpai... He's so strong...!
???: You're not going anywhere!
Liko would look back and saw that one of the trio from the group after her had managed to get closer to her.
???: Go! Skarmory!
The man released Skarmory from his Pokéball to block Liko's path. Seeing this, Umbreon quickly got in front of her, to protect her and take on Skarmory.
Umbreon: Bre!
???: Out the way! Skarmory, [Steel Wing]!
As Skarmory attempts to hit Umbreon, she quickly leapt out the way, before hitting Skarmory with a [Shadow Ball], knocking it back. With Liko and Sprigatito, they had overcome the clock tower but faced a new problem.
Liko's thoughts: So we have to jump across this...
There was no path on the other side of the clock tower. The distance to the next building was considerable. To get away, they had to leap across it. Ordinarily, this seemed impossible.
Sprigatito: Meow!
Liko: ..I know!
Liko's thoughts: I have to take the leap, or we'll be caught...!
With Liam and Lucario continued to keep the Ceruledge and his trainer at bay, he'd look back to see Liko on the Clock tower, surprising him.
Liam: Liko?! What are you doing?!
???: You should pay attention to your opponent! [Psycho Cut]!
As Ceruledge would unleash another [Psycho Cut], Lucario swiftly dodged it. However due to missing its target, it was now heading straight for Liko, who was mid-jump.
Liam: Liko0000000!
All Liam could do was scream. Even if it was pointless, he couldn't help but shout. Then, something happened that no one present could have predicted.
Liko's pendant suddenly began to glow, creating a protective barrier around her and Sprigatito, deflecting the [Psycho Cut].shocking Liam and the pursuers.
Liam's thoughts: Huh?! What is that?
The barrier only lasted a moment. It vanished quickly, and Liko and Sprigatito started to fall. If they hit the ground, they'd be seriously injured.
Liam: Damn it...! Umbreon, use-
???: FOUND YOU!!!!!!
Without any sort of warning, before either of them could fall, a goggled man manages to catch her with his Charizard.
???: Been looking for you for a while now, little lady. I'm gonna need you to come with me, so hold on tight.
Liko: H-Huh...?!
Liam's thoughts: Who is this guy?!
Without warning, the goggled man would take off with Liko in tow, shocking Liam.
Liam: Hey, wait! Liko!!!
Before he could do anything, Charizard was already high into the air and flying off into the distance.
Liam: Damn it! Lucario, Umbreon, return!
Returning the two of them to their Pokéballs, Liam quickly disengaged with the trio, before jumping off the roof and running off into the direction Charizard had gone.
Liam's thoughts: Just who the hell was that guy?! It's clear he wasn't with the last three. So is there entire second group after her?
Liam would simply narrow his eyes, more worried about Liko, rather the reason as in why.
Liam: It doesn't matter! I have to catch up to them before they get too far!
At that moment, Liam would pull out another Pokéball, before throwing it up into the air.
Liam: Let's go!
As the Pokemon would quickly emerge, crackles of electricity would follow, as the Pokemon's eyes would soon glow violet.
No one's POV
Back with Liko, as she wonders where the goggled man is taking her,
they soon arrive at a massive flying carrier, where the other members greet were there to greet them. A woman with pink hair and a large man appeared from inside the ship.
The silver-haired man and the large man exchanged a fist bump and then shook hands, likely their way of greeting.
???: You're Liko, right?
Liko: Y-Yes... Um, how do you know about me, and who exactly are you all?
Hearing Liko's question, the woman put her hand to her forehead.
???: Don't tell me... you didn't explain anything to her, did you!?"
???: Oh, I didn't? My bad.
???: How did you even bring her here?
???: Friede!
The silver-haired man, names Friede, was being scolded by the two. It seemed this wasn't the first time he'd failed to explain things properly.
Liko's thoughts: So, his name is Friede...
Fuecoco: Fuecoco!
Pawmi: Pawmi, Pawmi!
Two more Pokémon emerged, a wild Pawmi and Fuecoco, surprising Liko.
Liko: Fuecoco! And even Pawmi! Um, why are Pokémon from the Paldea region here?
???; Oh, those guys? They started living here while we were traveling. They're not the only ones. Look.
Various Pokémon from different regions, including Noctowl, Snorunt, and Shuckle, could be seen on the airship.
???: Sorry for the late introduction. I'm Mollie.
???: And I'm Murdock.
As they introduced themselves, Sprigatito seemed to have become friends and were playing together with the other Pokémon.
Liko's thoughts: They're all so cute... No, focus! I have to figure what's going on and let Liam Senpai know I'm safe...!
Liko: Um, excuse me!
Liko tried to ask for more details about the situation, but suddenly, an alarm started ringing from Friede's Rotom Phone.
Friede: Sorry, excuse me for a moment. One... Just one? But it's moving extremely quickly... Wait, it's about to-
???: AGIA!!!!!!!!!!
Suddenly, the group would hear a fearsome roar, as well as something bolting in the air at hyper sonic speeds, shocking them. It was as if it was an Unholy offspring of Lightning and Death itself....
Murdock: The hell is that...?!
Friede: Brace for impact!
Without warning, a the flying object would crash directly onto the dock, creating a powerful shockwave, forcing everyone to shield themselves. Not a moment later, would they see a pair of glowing eyes from within the dust cloud.
???: You got a lot of nerve if you think you can just take my friend and just fly away Scot free!
Upon hearing the voice, Liko's eyes widened, quickly recognizing it.
Liko's thoughts: Wait... that voice... it can't be...!
As the dust settled, Liko would see that it was in fact Liam who had arrived. And with him was a Pokémon she had never seen before.
It was a large cybernetic draconic Pokémon. Most of its body is violet in color, although its face, claws, abdomen, and tail are gray. Additionally, there are light purple accents on its shoulders and legs, the latter of which resemble jet engines when folded and allow it to float in the air. It almost resembled a Cyclizar in a way. Seeing this Pokemon, everyone looked completely shocked, however Friede wasn't all that afraid, but more the lines of surprised.
Friede's thoughts: No way... Don't tell me this kid's...
The Pokemon Friede and the others were looking at was The Paradox Legendary Pokémon, The Iron Serpent: Miraidon.
Miraidon: AGIA!!!!
Liam: I'm only going to ask once. Let my friend go!
Hearing Liam's demands, Mollie would simply face palm and glared daggers at Friede.
Mollie: Are you serious right now?! Not only did you just abruptly take her, but you didn't say anything to her friend?!
Friede: S-Sorry...!
Murdock: You got the wrong idea, kid. We aren't the bad guys here!
As Liam narrowed his eyes, along with Miraidon readying to attack, Liko quickly ran towards him, trying to deescalate the situation.
Liko: L-Liam Senpai! It's okay, they're telling the truth! I'm okay! I promise!
Seeing Liko run up to him without resistance, would help confirm their story, causing Liam to breathe a sigh of relief.
Liam: Liko... I'm glad you're safe...
Liam would say, giving her a smile and a pat on the head, causing her to faintly blush, very quickly realize that he had came all this way just for her.
Liko: Senpai... You came all this way just for me...? Why...?
Liam: Why wouldn't I? You're my friend, aren't you? I wasn't just going to sit by and let them take you.
Hearing this, Liko's blush would deepen a bit more, before smiling softly towards him.
Liko: Thank you, Liam Senpai...
Friede: Sorry, sorry... That was definitely my bad... But the last person I expected to pop up would be the Trainer who was entrusted with that Pokemon.
Hearing this, Liam would turn to Friede, raising a brow.
Liam: How do you know about Miraidon?
Friede: Ahaha, let's just say I've looked into a bit of the research of Professor's Suda and Turo to know enough what he is.
Liko: "Miraidon"? Is that this Pokemon's name? I've never seen one before.
Liam: It's a bit of a long story. But I still want to know why you took Liko.
Liko: Y-Yeah...! So do-
As Liam and Liko tried to ask for more details about the situation, once again suddenly, an alarm started ringing from Friede's Rotom Phone.
Friede: Sorry, excuse me for a moment.
Liko's thoughts: Again...?
Friede: One... two... three... could it be those guys from before? I'm heading to the control room. We're setting sail!
Liam: Those guys? You don't mean...!
The alarm was clearly a warning signal. Given the words "three," "those guys," and
"pursuing," there was only one possible conclusion.
Liko: Are the three from before chasing us?
Friede. Yeah, probably. Noctowl! Keep watch around us! They haven't given up yet.
Murdock: Friede, who are 'they'? What happened at the school?
Friede: I'll explain later. Murdock, check below! Mollie, take care of the Pokémon and these two!
Friede gave orders to Murdock and Mollie in quick succession. Judging by his decisiveness and command skills in an emergency, Liam was certain he was the captain of the ship.
Mollie: There's a storm forming on our course.
Orla's panicking.
Friede: We'll handle it. Let's go, Charizard.
Charizard: Zard!
After Friede finished giving instructions, everyone began to carry out their roles.
Liam: Hmm.. Looks like we didn't get any answers.
Liko: Ugh... I want to know what's happening...
Mollie: You two! How long are you going to stay there? Come on, hurry up!
Liam: She's right. If these guys are really trying to help us out, then let's return the favor. We'll get our answers afterwords.
Liko: R-Right...!
Liam: Miraidon, return.
As Liam would recall Miraidon, the two reluctantly decided to follow the instructions, Mollie led them to an observation room, however, but suddenly, the lights on the airship went out.
Liko: A blackout!?
Mollie: At a time like this...
They were out of luck. Pursued by a mysterious group, they boarded the airship thinking they were safe, only to be attacked again and then plunged into darkness due to a power outage. Along with that, suddenly the cries of Noctowl, who was on the lookout caught their attention.
Liam: Seems like they're here...
Mollie used a telescope to check the rear of the ship, where Noctowl's warning was directed. She saw the boy and his crew on Corviknight, Pidgeot and Skarmory, heading towards them.
Mollie: Those guys, they're the Explorers!
Liam knew learned a lot about infamous Evil Organizations. Team Rocket, Team Magma and Aqua, Team Galactic, Team Plasma and Team Flare, but Explorers were definitely a new one.
Liam: The Explorers... Liko, do you know them?
Liko: No, I've never heard of them.
Mollie: They're taking another risk... but there's no other choice. Orla, it's up to you now.
While Liam was contemplating the Explorers, the ship's course of action seemed to have been decided. Mollie spoke on the phone, and the ship's speed increased significantly, changing direction sharply to the right.
Liam: At this rate, we're heading straight into a thundercloud...
Liko: What!?
Liko was shocked by Liam muttering. She knew nothing about airships, but she understood that thunderclouds were
something to be avoided at all costs.
Liko: Wh-why are we heading into a thundercloud!?
Liam: It's probably to shake off our pursuers. If we don't do anything, they'll catch up to us for sure.
Liko: But...
Liam: Not much we can do now. We just have to brace ourselves.
Seeing how calm Liam was, she couldn't help but both both shocked and amazed.
Liko: How can you stay so calm!?
Liam accepted the current situation as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
Liko couldn't understand his attitude.
Liam: When you're traveling, getting caught in disasters like this happens all the time. But if you do your best, you can get through most things. Right now, the best thing we can do is trust the people on this ship. So, let's believe we'll make it through safely and wait.
Mollie: You're pretty gutsy. You sound as reckless as Friede.
Liam: I can't compare to you guys, but I guess I've been told that a few times I guess.
Liam and Mollie laughed together, leaving Liko feeling left out.
Liko's thoughts: These people on the ship are bold, but so is Liam Senpai...
After a while, the ship entered the thundercloud. Lightning spread across the windows of the observation room, and rain splattered heavily against the glass. Liko watched the outside with anxiety. Suddenly, she noticed three flying Pokémon and their trainers attacking from the rear of the ship.
Liko: Uh... they're coming!
Liam's thoughts: They used the airship as a shield against the wind to get closer? They're persistent.
Mollie: Damn! Friede, the Explorers are on the wing deck! ...No good, the power's out. We have no choice. You guys stay here!"
Liko: What are you going to do?
Mollie: Manually retract it.
Liam: Wait.
Mollie said as she tried to open the door and go outside, but Liam grabbed her arm to stop her.
Mollie: What? I'm in a hurry!
The Explorers were already here. They had been attacking the barrier repeatedly, and it would break after a few more hits. If Mollie tried to manually move the huge wing deck now, the barrier would break and they would be overrun.
Mollie: Damn! Then what do we do?
With a bang, the barrier broke, and the three Explorers invaded the wing deck.
Liko: They're in..
Mollie: Damn it... what now?
Liam: Like I said before, we have to do our best. At this point, the only option is to fight back.
Liam took out a Pokéball and stepped outside.
Mollie: Hey, wait... you!
Liam: Mollie, right? please take care of the Pokémon and Liko. I'll handle them.
Mollie: Are you sure you'll be okay?
Liam would simply chuckle.
Liam: I've been through much worse. Compared to that, this is nothing.
As Liam continued to make his way outside, Liko tried stopping him.
Liko: But...
Liam: Liko.
Liko: ...
Liam would look back with a smile.
Liam: Trust me. I'll handle it. I won't let them get any near you.
Liam's reassuring smile left Liko speechless, and she could only watch in silence as he descended to the wing deck.
Liko's thoughts: Liam Senpai...Wait a second! This situation... being chased because of the pendant... Liam Senpai protecting me in such a dire situation... Am I... am I the Heroine of a story!?
Liam: ...-_-... Liko, you have a really strange look on your face. Are you okay?
It seemed that Liko's emotions showed more on her face than she realized. As Liam made his way outside, he stood face to face with three trainers.
Liam: Hey.
???: You! That brat from before!
Liam: I would say it's good to see you again, but I would be lying.
???: Brat...! I'm gonna—
???: Zirc, stand down.
Zirc: But...!
???: Zirc.
Zirc: Yes...
Zirc, who had been provoked by Liam and was about to step forward, was stopped by the young boy, who then stepped up to face Liam himself.
???: You again...
Liam: Sorry, it's me again. But I can definitely say the same to you three.
???: I'm not interested in you. Where's the girl?
The boy's dismissive tone was expected since he had no particular interest in Liam. However, Liam found it odd that he was so fixated on Liko.
Liam: Liko? I thought you guys were after the pendant.
???: Initially, the pendant was our only goal. But it seems there's a secret to it, one that involves her. We've changed our plan; she'll be coming with us.
Liam: Not a chance in hell.
???: Your consent is irrelevant. We will achieve our goal.
Liam: And your goals are irrelevant. There's no way I'll let you take the pendant or her.
???: I see... Then let's settle this with a battle. I won't hold back. I, Amethio challenge you!
Liam: That's what I was hoping for!
Both Liam and Amethio simultaneously threw their Pokéballs.
Amethio: Go! Ceruledge!
Liam: Lucario!
Liam sent out his Lucario, and Amethio released his Ceruledge, just like when they first encountered each other at the academy.
Amethio: Lucario again, huh... You know it's a disadvantageous matchup. You can switch if
you want.
Liam: Guess you forgot how our last battle went.
Hearing this, Amethio narrowed his eyes towards Liam.
Amethio: Don't regret it. Ceruledge, use [Bitter Blade]!
Lucario: Lucario, [Bone Rush]!
Rushing forward, in the center of the deck, Ceruledge's dual swords clashed with Lucario's Bone bo staff, resulting in a tense standoff, before breaking their clash.
Liam: [Aura Sphere]!
Amethio: [Bitter Blade]!
Lucario hurled an [Aura Sphere] at the retreating Ceruledge, but it was swiftly sliced in half by Ceruledge's [Bitter Blade].
Liam: Not bad at all...
Amethio: I don't have time to waste on you. I'm ending this quickly.
Liam: By all means, feel free to try! [Extreme Speed]!
Using [Extreme Speed], Lucario quickly closed the gap with Ceruledge, surprising him.
Amethio: Ceruledge, [Psycho Cut]!
Ceruledge attempted to strike the approaching Lucario with [Psycho Cut], but he narrowly evaded and closed in on Ceruledge.
Liam: Now! [Close Combat]!
Lucario: Luca!
Becoming shrouded in a blue aura, Lucario before hitting Ceruledge with a barrage of strikes, sending it flying through the air.
Amethio: What!? Ceruledge!
Liam: Lucario, [Aura Sphere]!
With Ceruledge airborne and unable to escape, Lucario hurled another [Aura Sphere], aiming to finish the fight.
Amethio: Not yet! Ceruledge, [Bitter Blade]!
Just before the [Aura Sphere] hit, Ceruledge regained its composure and deflected it with its [Bitter Blade]. The [Aura Sphere] continued past and headed towards the observation deck behind Liam.
Liam: What!?
Instinctively, Liam turned around, but the [Aura Sphere] had narrowly missed the observation deck. He let out a sigh of relief
and shifted his gaze back to the battlefield.
Ceruledge had already regained its stance, swords at the ready.
Amethio: ...You missed your chance. If you had continued the attack instead of worrying
about where the attack was going, Ceruledge would have taken significant damage, and you might have won.
Liam: I'm not trying to just beat you, I'm protecting Liko as well. But I'll end this soon enough.
In reality, Ceruledge had taken quite a bit of damage, while Lucario was nearly unscathed. Despite the unfavorable type matchup, it was clear who had the upper hand at this point.
Amethio: I'll admit... you and your Pokémon are strong. But I won't give you another chance. Ceruledge, [Shadow Claw]!
Liam: Lucario, [Metal Claw]!
???: Stop it already!
Liam: Liko?
Liko's cry interrupted the battle just as Lucario and Ceruledge were about to clash again. Everyone on the deck turned their attention to her. Holding Sprigatito in her arms, Liko stepped out from the observation deck and walked towards the wing deck.
Mollie: Liko, what are you doing!?
Mollie tried to stop her, but Liko continued.
Liko: I don't want Liam Senpai, Lucario, or anyone else to get hurt because of me... not anymore...!
Liam: ...
Amethio: Did you hear that? She doesn't want any more interference.
Liko: Even Sprigatito...
Sprigatito: Meow...!
Suddenly, Sprigatito began to struggle, leaping out of Liko's arms and turning to face her with a determined expression.
Sprigatito: Meow!!!!
Liko's thoughts: What? What's going on, Sprigatito? Why are you so...
Liam: Liko, Sprigatito senses it. She knows how you really feel.
Liko: Senpai...
Liam: You don't need to worry about involving everyone. Be honest with yourself!
In truth, the only person Liko had inadvertently involved in this ordeal was Liam.
The ship's crew, including Friede, had willingly gotten involved, so Liko had no reason to feel responsible. Furthermore, if Liam hadn't come to help when she was in trouble, he would have been tormented by his inability to be there when needed.
Liko's thoughts: So, Sprigatito realized I was lying to myself about my feelings...
Liam: Liko, if you're going to step forward, now's the time!
Liko: Yeah!
Liko was ready to take a new step forward, her expression now much more determined.
Liko: Let's go, Sprigatito!
Sprigatito: Meow!
Liko, accompanied by Sprigatito, moved to stand before Amethio, next to Liam and Lucario.
Liko: [Leafage]!!!!
Sprigatito: Meowwwww!
Sprigatito unleashed an extremely powerful [Leafage],
a volume so immense that it engulfed the entire wing deck. It was a level of power never shown during training with Liam.
Amethio: What?!
Ceruledge: Sol!
Ceruledge instinctively crossed its swords and stepped in front of Amethio to protect him.
Liam's thoughts: Whoa... this is intense!
However, the unprecedented power of the attack backfired, causing Liam's eyes to widen.
Liam's thoughts: Wait.. This is... bad!
The wing deck was protected by a barrier.
But the barrier, already weakened by Amethio's attacks, couldn't withstand Sprigatito's most powerful [Leafage] and shattered completely.
Liko: Ah!
Liam: Liko!
With the barrier broken, strong winds rushed onto the wing deck, causing everyone to lose their balance and fall over. Liam quickly grabbed Liko, managing to stop them from sliding. However...
Sprigatito: Meow!
Liam: Dammit...
Liko: Sprigatito!
Lucario attempted to stop Sprigatito with his foot, but it was too late. Overpowered by the wind, Sprigatito was blown off the wing deck.
Liam's thought: A fall from that height...!
The worst-case scenario flashed through his mind, but it was averted by an unexpected savior.
Amethio: I'll be taking this Sprigatito.
The one who saved Sprigatito was Amethio, riding on his Corviknight.
To be precise, he didn't save it; he took it hostage.
Zirc: Master Amethio!
???: If we stay here, we'll be caught in the storm...!
Hearing this, Amethio would turn his gaze towards Liam.
Amethio: You, Liam, was it? We'll settle this later... retreat!
Leaving those words behind, Amethio retreated with Sprigatito.
Sprigatito: Meoww.! Meooooooowwww...!!!
Liko could do nothing but shout into the storm.
Liko: Sprigatitoooo!!!!!!!!
(A/N) Important Note: I'm going with something different when it comes to movesets within this series. instead of having only 4 moves, all Pokémon will now have a maximum of 6 moves.
No one's POV
After Liko watched Sprigatito become nothing more than a small speck in the distance as Amethio flies away with her. As the raindrops still clung to Liko's clothes, she would begin to feel an aching feeling. She wasn't used to this kind of feeling, this aching gap in her chest.
The sight of Sprigatito's paws scratching at the ground as she slipped over the edge of the deck was burned into her mind, lingering like a ghost wherever she looked.
Liko: ...
Liam: Come on. We can't just sit out here, Liko...
The voice came from above her, it was from Liam. Liko stood, Liam's arm still around her. Rather, he pulled her upwards, standing up with a light tug at her arm. He hovered over her as he led her back towards the tower she'd been hiding in.
Smoke from the move that Lucario's [Aura Sphere] had used still unfurled, even as the rain continued to beat down. Liam directed her to yet another door, tucked into the central column of the ship, this time around the side from where she'd been hiding. A back up entry point, an area where Mollie had led them to.
They stepped in and out of the rain, as Liko ducked out of Liam's arm. He didn't seem to mind.
Thunder cracked in perfect timing with lightning outside, and Liko tried to not flinch. It didn't work all too well, but by this point there wasn't much face she had left to save.
A staircase loomed in front of Liko, plunging down into the dark depths she couldn't see the bottom of.
Liam: I'll go first.
His voice faded slightly as Liko watched him retreat deeper into the dark. She followed, steps still shaky. She stared downwards at her feet as she walked down the stairs. After a few moments, she would carefully making sure not to slip.
Liko only noticed they'd made it to the bottom of the staircase when she went to step down and was met with flat floor. She saw Liam had walked up to Mollie, who pushed open and walked inside. Liam held it for her as she stepped through. Liko bit her tongue and tried to focus on breathing, on not crying all too much.
Liam: Here you go.
Liko's thoughts were interrupted by something softer. A towel, actually it was white and fluffy, and it has been placed right onto Liko's head.
Liko: Ah...
Liko opened her mouth to reply, but the usual polite thank you she has prepared on her tongue doesn't fall out like it's meant to. She was struggling to make herself speak how she's supposed to.
Mollie: Dry yourself off, alright? We don't want you catching cold.
Liko reached up towards the towel, rubbing it against her hair and face to try and soak up the rain water.
Once she'd deemed herself sufficiently dry, she pulled the towel downwards, messing up her hair in the process. Liko wrapped the towel around her shoulders, pulling it inwards in front of her like a blanket. Still damp, and not all too warm, but the light weight felt comforting around her.
Liam: Bit better, yeah?
Liko nodded, words still failing her for the time being.
Mollie: We should get you out of those wet clothes though.... Soon, if not now. The both of you.
Liam: I'm fine. Isn't my first time being drenched like this.
Liko shook her head, as if signaling she was fine for the time being as well. Liam would then glance down towards her. She had already exhausted herself as it was, she wasn't sure she even had the energy for something so simple at the moment.
She trembled still, only slightly. Tremors that she tried to conceal by pulling the towel around her closer, not that it did much to help. Noticing this, Liam would see a blanket on a crate, picking it up.
Liam: Here, trade me.
Liam said, holding out the blanket. It was a bit faded, a quilt of some kind judging by the stitching. The fabric was a beige sort of colour, the fabric worn down into something soft to the touch. Slowly, Liko pulled the towel off her shoulders, holding it out Liam as she took the quilt from him.
It was very soft, and she wrapped it around herself just as easily. She was still damp, her uniform was soaked through, but the blanket helped.
Liam: Better?
Liko: Yes... Thank you, Senpai...
Liam: Don't mention it.
After making sure she was situated, Liam would pull out a Pokéball, calling out Umbreon.
Umbreon: Bre!
Liam: Umbreon, a lots happened in just an hour. But for now, I need you to look after Liko for me, alright? Keep her safe.
Umbreon: Bre!
Without needing an explanation, Umbreon made her way to Liko, sitting with her. Once that was settled, he begin to make his way up the stairs, causing Liko to look at him with a bit of concern.
Liko: Senpai? Where are you...?
Liam: I'm going to talk to that Friede guy. I'm sure he has an idea on where that Amethio guy went.
Hearing this, Liko would look towards Liam surprised, seeing that he was taking the initiative in searching for Sprigatito.
Something that she was still shaken up to do. Even in the situation they were in, Liam is still looking after her as her Senior, and as her friend. Before leaving, Liam would give her a reassuring smile.
Liam: Don't worry. We're going to get Sprigatito back. I promise. The second I find something out, I'll let you know. So for now just warm up and get some rest, kay?
Looking at Liam, Liko unknowingly would gain a small blush, faint red appearing on her face. After a moment, she'd nod.
Liko: Okay. Thank you, Senpai...
Liam: Again, don't mention it.
(Timeskip)
Sometime later, after Liam had gone to speak with Friede, he and Liam had decided to go after the Explorers, given how Friede managed to see the direction they were going.
Liam: So this is where they had gone, huh?
Liam stood in a port town, upon getting off of Miraidon. It was short distance from the Brave Olivine, which Friede had tracked them this far.
Liam's thoughts: If the Explorers had a base in this town, they had likely already retreated there. Searching from the air was no longer viable. The search would have to continue from the ground.
Liam would then let out a sigh, having recalled something rather irritating.
Liam's thoughts: ...-_-... I'm just hoping I don't have to do a something similar to the Star Bases....
???: Hey!
As Liam recalled Miraidon to his Pokéball Friede, riding Charizard, approached from the sky, with a Pikachu wearing a captain's hat on his shoulder.
Liam: Friede, took you long enough.
Friede: Hey, hey... I'm not riding on an extremely fast Paradox Pokemon you know... But don't go off on your own like that.
Liam: Sorry.
Friede: I understand your feelings, but being reckless isn't going to help us in this situation.
Liam just gave Friede a look, hearing this.
Liam: ...-_-... I've only known you for a few hours, but I feel like I shouldn't be hearing something like that form you...
Friede: Ehehe... I get that a lot actually...
Friede wasn't one to shy away from reckless actions. He understood Liam's actions on an emotional level. His reprimand was more out of a sense of adult responsibility.
Friede: So, any signs of the Explorers?
Liam: No. They're probably deeper into the town.
Friede: I see. Then let's head back to the ship and regroup. With my team, we can search more effectively.
Friede suggested that they return to the ship to gather more people for the search. However, Liam had already made up his mind.
Liam: No, I'll continue searching here.
Friede: Wait! We'll find Sprigatito, I promise. So...
Liam: Friede, you and group seem trustworthy. Since I saw the Pokémon on that ship, I can tell you're not bad guys.
Pokémon are inherently honest creatures.
While their personalities can vary, they are greatly influenced by their environment and their trainers. The Pokémon Liam saw on that ship were proof that the crew were good people.
Friede: ...In that case..
Liam: But it hasn't been long since we lost
Sprigatito. My Pokémon can still track her by scent. If too much time passed, the scent trail would fade. If the Explorers took Sprigatito far away, searching would become more difficult.
Even if they stayed in town, the Explorers would use Sprigatito as a valuable bargaining chip for the pendant. If it came to that, they would have all the leverage.
Liam: Sprigatito is still somewhere in this town. We need to search now.
Friede: Alright. Then, I'll join you-
Liam: No. Please go back to the ship and inform Liko and the others.
Friede: But—
Liam: Liko must be worried about Sprigatito. Tell her we're still searching and leave it to me.
And you said it yourself, more people means a better search. If I fail, I'll need your help.
Liam looked straight into Friede's eyes as he asked. After a few moments, Friede sighed deeply, rubbing his head.
Friede: Alright, alright. You win.
Realizing he couldn't convince Liam, Friede raised his hands in defeat, before smiling.
Friede: You must be a very popular upperclassmen to go so far for your underclassmen.
Liam would just chuckle.
Liam: Regardless of status, Liko's my friend. Of course I'd go out of my way to help her. But be sure to tell her to "Keep your head up. We'll get Sprigatito back for sure".
Friede: I see. But promise me one thing at least. If you find their hideout, don't go in alone. Contact me via my Rotom Phone.
With that, Friede took a piece of paper from his pocket, wrote down a number, and handed it to Liam.
Liam: Right.
Friede: Charizard, Cap, let's head back to the ship!
Charizard: Zard!
Cap.Pikachu: Pika!
Liam's thoughts: So this Pikachu is called "Cap"?
Friede mounted Charizard again, with Cap the Pikachu on his shoulder, and they flew back toward the ship. Watching them until they disappeared from sight, Liam then turned his attention back toward the town.
Liam: Alright, let's do this. Come out, Arcanine!
As Liam threw up his Pokéball, out would come his Arcanine, who landed onto the ground with a load thud.
Arcanine: Arcanine!!!
Liam would walk up to Arcanine, rubbing his head, before pulling out a cloth with Sprigatito's scent on it.
Liam: Arcanine, listen carefully.
Arcanine: Arc?
Liam: Liko's Sprigatito has been kidnapped.
The kidnappers are likely hiding somewhere in this town. Can you track Sprigatito by scent?
Arcanine: Canine!
Arcanine responded confidently. Liam believed that with Arcanine's keen nose, it would surely find Sprigatito.
Arcanine: Arcanine!
Liam: That way, huh?
(Elsewhere)
(Flashback)
Kid Liko: Wow, so beautiful!
This was a memory from before Liko arrived at the academy, a time when she had not yet received the pendant. Back then, her grandmother still held onto it.
???: One day, Liko, you'll wear this and go on an adventure.
Kid Liko: Will I really? Adventures sound scary...
???: The first step is the only scary part. Once you take it, you'll see a world you've never seen before, and the fear will disappear... especially if you have Pokémon by your side...
(Present)
With these words echoing in her mind, Liko slowly awoke. She had dreamed of her grandmother for the first time in a long while, likely due to all that had happened since last night involving the pendant her grandmother had given her for protection.
Liko's thoughts: Where am I...?
This wasn't her room. It was a room aboard the Brave Olivine. After Sprigatito had been kidnapped, she had been given a room on the ship to rest.
Liko's thoughts: She's not here...
Usually, Sprigatito would be sleeping next to her, but it was gone.
Liko: Sprigatito...
Liko whispered softly, feeling a sudden wave of loneliness. At that moment, a gentle nuzzle was felt on her cheek.
Umbreon: Umbre.
It was Liam's Umbreon. Liam had entrusted Liko's care to Umbreon before leaving the ship. Since last night, she had stayed by her side, watching over her.
Liko: Thank you. I'm okay, Umbreon.
Umbreon: Bre...
Liko reassured Umbreon, who looked at her with concern.
Liko's thoughts: It's okay... Liam Senpai is chasing after them. He will find a clue...
Liko had no way to move from the ship, so she had to trust and wait.
Liko's thoughts: I will definitely get Sprigatito back.
With a strong resolve, Liko changed into her uniform and went outside with Umbreon. She found the ship's mechanic, Orla, Murdock and Mollie, whom she had met last night.
Liko: Um... I...
Orla: You're going to get Sprigatito back, right?
Liko: Huh?
Mollie: Friede is currently with your buddy Liam and the Explorers.
Murdock: That's right. Panicking won't help anything.
All three were concerned about Liko, and their care warmed her heart.
Liko's thoughts: Maybe these people aren't bad after all...
Orla: Friede will find Sprigatito and bring your friend back too.
Orio reassured her just as a shadow passed overhead. Friede had returned to the ship on Dragonite.
Murdock: Speak of the devil.
Charizard landed on the deck, and Friede joined them. However much to Liko's disappointment, she didn't see neither Sprigatito nor Liam was with him.
Friede: Hey, you're awake.
Liko: Where is Sprigatito? And Liam Senpai?
Friede: We lost track of the Explorers.
"Lost track". Those words weighed heavily on Liko. She didn't blame Liam, but losing their only lead was a heavy blow.
Friede: I told him to come back here, but he insisted on continuing the search, saying there's still a chance to find Sprigatito.
Orla: Hey, is he going to be okay?
Friede: Well, he promised not to do anything reckless. I told him to contact us if anything happens, so he should be fine. And, Liko.
Liko: Y-Yes?
Friede: I have a message from Liam. "Keep your head up. We'll get Sprigatito back for sure. " I know it's tough, but can you trust him a little longer?
Liko: Yes! Of course!
Those words gave Liko courage and hope. Liam hadn't given up on anything. He was still out there, searching for Sprigatito.
Liko's thoughts: Sprigatito... Liam Senpai... I won't give up either!
Even without any leads, Liko wouldn't give up on Sprigatito. She believed in Liam's words that there was still hope.
(Elsewhere)
Somewhere a short walk from the port town, Liam and Arcanine had tracked Sprigatito's scent to a certain facility.
Arcanine: Arc!
Liam: Is it over there, huh?
No one's POV
Somewhere a short walk from the port town, Liam and Arcanine had tracked Sprigatito's scent to a certain facility.
Arcane: Arc!
Liam: Is it over there, huh? Come out, Lucario.
Liam would call out his Lucario, who landed next to him and Arcanine.
Lucario: Luca!
Liam: Lucario, I need to know what's happening inside that facility. Liko's Sprigatito should be in there.
Lucario: Luca.
Lucario closed his eyes, focusing his Aura to sense the inside of the warehouse. After a few moments, he'd look back towards him, holding up all three fingers on his paw.
Liam: Three? One of them is Sprigatito, so there's only 2 of them inside? Where's the third?
Liam contacted Friede. Considering the current situation, Friede was the only one he could rely on for backup. He planned to share all the information to secure Friede's cooperation,
especially given their previous agreement.
Friede: This is Friede.
Liam: Friede, where are you right now?
(20 minutes earlier....)
Friede: Alright! First, let's decide on our plan of action.
After docking the Brave Olivine at the harbor, Liko and the others disembarked from the
ship and began assigning roles. Friede and Murdock were tasked with searching for the Explorers, Orla was responsible for repairing the ship, and Mollie and Liko were to pick up the medicine.
Liko: Um, have you heard from Liam Senpai?
Umbreon: Bre.
Liko was aware that Liam was already searching for the Explorers in this town. She thought he might have found some clues by now. If that were the case, despite being indebted to them, she felt she needed to join the search to retrieve Sprigatito.
Friede: Come to think of it, we haven't heard from him.
Liko: ... I see...
Friede: Don't be too disappointed. We'll meet up with Liam and share information...
At that moment, Friede's Rotom Phone rang.
Friede: Oh! Speak of the devil.
Liko: Is it Liam Senpai?
Friede: Yeah, I'll put it on speaker.
Friede answered the call and put it on speaker so everyone could hear.
Friede: This is Friede.
Liam: Friede, where are you now?
Friede: We just docked at the harbor. We should meet up. Can you come here?
Liam: No, I'll send you my location. I need you to come to where I am.
Friede: Huh? That's fine, but... Wait...Don't tell me!
Liam: Yep, I've found the Explorers's hideout.
Everyone was shocked. They had only hoped for a small clue, at best. The other members, excluding Liko, had somewhat underestimated Liam. They never expected him to find the hideout this quickly.
Friede: Are you sure?
Liam: Yes. Two of the three who attacked us are here. Not sure where the third is though.
Liko couldn't contain herself and moved closer to Friede's phone to speak to Liam.
Liko: Liam Senpai! Is Sprigatito there?
Liam: Liko, you're there...? Yes, I confirmed Sprigatito's presence. She's definitely here.
Liko: Send me the location! I'll come right away!
Friede: Hey! Liko...
Liam: Liko, if you come here, there will definitely be battles. Without your Pokemon, it will be tough.
Friede and Liam tried to stop her. They both knew it was too dangerous for Liko to go.
Liko: I understand! But Sprigatito is my Pokémon. She must be feeling so scared and lonely... I have to go... because I am Sprigatito's... trainer!
Everyone present realized just how deeply Liko cared for Sprigatito. They understood her resolve and knew there was no stopping
her. Hearing this, Liam would sigh.
Liam: Is Umbreon there with you?
Liko: Y-Yes.
Liam: Then come here with Umbreon. The condition is that you always stay with Umbreon when you act. Got it?
Liko: Got it!
Liam decided to allow this condition after some thought. If he couldn't stop her, he figured it would be better to have her where he could see her.
Friede: Hey, you can't just decide that on your own...
Liam: You understand, don't you, Friede? Liko is surprisingly stubborn, and once she's made up her mind, there's no stopping her. It's better to have her close by than letting her act recklessly on her own.
Friede: Yeah... I know... I know. Fine, I'll come with Liko and meet you there, so wait for us.
Liam: Right. I'll send you the location.
With that, the call ended, and a text with Liam's location was sent to Friede's phone.
Friede: Liko, it's fine if you come, but if it gets dangerous, you must run away.
Liko: Okay.
Friede: Phew... Alright, that's the plan. We'll change our plans. Liko and I will join Liam and then we'll go rescue Sprigatito. Orla and Murdock, work on repairing the ship. We'll leave as soon as we rescue Sprigatito, so work quickly. Mollie, pick up the medicine. Once you're done, help Orla and Murdock. Alright,
everyone!
Liko's thoughts: Sprigatito, wait for me!
Watching Friede give hand signals, Liko steeled herself. She was determined to get Sprigatito back no matter what.
(Elsewhere)
Liam: ...-_-... Phew... what a hassle...
After ending the call with Friede and sending his location, Liam let out a sigh. Even if Liko arrived, she wouldn't be much of a help in retrieving Sprigatito. In fact, it would be more like having another person to protect.
Normally, Liko would understand that, but with Sprigatito being captured, it might be hard for her to make that judgment. Soon Liam's sigh would turn to a smile.
Liam's thoughts: Well, I guess this means Liko has truly become a Pokémon Trainer.
After a few minutes, Liko and Friede met up with Liam in front of the Explorers' hideout. Friede looked relatively composed, but Liko was panting heavily, clearly having rushed over.
Liko: Huff... huff... Liam Senpai...!
Friede: Yo, sorry to keep you waiting.
Cap.Pikachu: Pika!
Next to Liko was Liam's Umbreon, and on Friede's shoulder was Cap.Pikachu. Liam would kneel down to rub Umbreon's head.
Liam: Thanks for looking after Liko.
Umbreon: Bre!
Liko: Sprigatito is in there, right?
Liam: Yeah, no doubt about it.
Liko: Sprigatito...
Liam: We'll definitely get her back. I'll support you in every way I can.
Liko: Liam Senpai... thank you!
Liam wanted to reassure Liko, who was worried about Sprigatito.
Liam: Right. Currently, there's only one enemy inside, who I'm guessing is Amethio. The other one left awhile ago and I still haven't seen the third one.
Liko: They already know we're here?
Liam: I wouldn't be surprised if they did. Either way, we need to act quickly to retrieve Sprigatito. For that, we'll need...
Liam shared his plan with Liko and Friede. The plan was simple: one person would distract Amethio in a battle while Liko and another
person, guided by Arcanine, would rescue Sprigatito.
Liam: I'll be the decoy.
Liko: Wait! You can't do that!
The moment Liam mentioned being the decoy, Liko instinctively shouted to stop him.
Friede: Liko's right. If we need a decoy, I'll do it.
Friede agreed with the plan but opposed Liam taking on the most dangerous role.
Liam: No, I have to be the decoy. To be clear, Amethio is fixated not only on the pendant but also on defeating me. Friede, he's more obsessed with settling the score with me than with you.
Friede: I see. The battle between you and Amethio is still unresolved, huh?
Liam: Yeah. He was nearly defeated when he fought me. If I provoke him, he'll definitely take the bait. I'm the only one who can effectively serve as the decoy.
Judging by Amethio's behavior, this was accurate. Despite starting the battle in a dominant position, he was nearly defeated, wounding his pride significantly.
Liko: But...!
Liam was not willing to budge unless a compelling counterargument was presented. And Friede knew this as he chuckled.
Friede: You really don't leave any room for objections, do you?
Liko: Liam Senpai, you called me stubborn, but you're way more stubborn than I am...
Liko gave Liam exasperated looks, which he accepted without complaint, with a smile.
Liam had the feeling Amethio would chose to battle head-on without using Sprigatito as a bargaining chip. Despite that, he also had a personal desire to settle the score, which influenced his decision to take on the decoy role. After a final review of the plan, it was time to move out.
Liam: Alright! Let's go rescue Sprigatito!
Liam returned Lucario, as They headed towards the warehouse inside the facility where Sprigatito was being held. Despite not sneaking around, they encountered neither Amethio nor any Pokémon on their way.
However, the moment they entered the warehouse, the lights turned on, and a shadowy figure appeared before them.
It was Amethio, the leader who had been
targeting Liko from the school to the airship.
Liam: ...-_-... Was making a dramatic entrance really necessary?
Amethio: Did you bring the pendant?
Liko pulled out the pendant and showed it to Amethio.
Liko: Will you return Sprigatito for this?
Amethio didn't respond, causing Liam to chuckle.
Liam's thoughts: Well, that's no surprise...
Liam knew Amethio's goal was no longer just the pendant. For reasons unknown, he had declared that he would take Liko along with the pendant. Liam didn't expect him to agree to a simple exchange.
Liam: Alright then. Amethio, let's settle this with a Pokémon battle. Let's finish what we started yesterday. Or are you afraid of losing?
Amethio: Don't be ridiculous!
For the first time, Amethio raised his voice emotionally. It seemed he didn't handle provocation well.
Liam: If I win, you'll return Sprigatito.
Amethio: If I win, she comes with me along with the pendant.
Liam: Fine. Liko, Friede, step back.
Friede: Okay... Liam, don't lose.
Liko: Be careful, Senpai...
Liko and Friede moved away to avoid interfering with the battle. So far, everything was going according to Liam's plan. The idea to settle things with a battle worked because Amethio was fixated on it.
Amethio: Go! Gallade!
Gallade: Lade!!!
Liam: Gallade, huh? Alright then. Let's go, Ceruledge!
As Amethio sent out his Shiny Gallade, while Liam released his own Shiny Ceruledge, who was poised for action, surprising Amethio.
Amethio's thoughts: He has one as well?
(A/N) The same Ceruledge from the PokeToons
Ceruledge: Sol!
As Ceruledge would ready her blades, Gallade would do the same, narrowing his eyes. It would be a battle of blades. With a swift gesture, Liam made the first move.
Liam: Ceruledge, [Bitter Blade]!
Ceruledge: Sol!
In a flash, Ceruledge surged forward, her
arm blades becoming shrouded in purple flames. Amethio's eyes narrowed as he countered,
Amethio: Gallade, [Night Slash]!
Gallade's blades on his arms would extend, before glowing a light blue, rushing forward.
Gallade: Gal!
The two clashed in a whirlwind of motion. Ceruledge's blades met the sharp edge of Gallade's, creating a shockwave that reverberated through the warehouse. Sparks flew as the two attacks collided.
Before Liam and Amethio's battle began, Liko and Friede quietly moved away. Once they confirmed that Amethio was focused on the battle, they started their mission to rescue
However, as the sound of Ceruledge and Bisharp's attacks clashing echoed, Liko suddenly stopped and looked back.
Liko: Liam Senpai...
Friede: Liko! We have to trust Liam right now!
Liko...Yes!
Liko's thoughts: It's okay... Liam Senpai won't lose... He will come back safely!
They needed to rescue Sprigatito as quickly as possible and inform Liam. Then, Liam could escape from this place.
For the sake of Sprigatito and Liam, this was the only thing Liko could do. At that moment, Liko had no choice but to believe and act on it. Back with Liam and Amethio, their battle was still just as intense.
Amethio: [Night Slash]!
Gallade twisted away from the clash, before immediately launching forward in a series of rapid slashes.
Liam: Dodge and counter!
Liam shouted as Ceruledge sidestepped the incoming attacks, her agility surprising even Amethio. Just as Gallade was about to land hit, Ceruledge countered with a swift slash of her own.
The two danced around each other, strikes, before Amethio aimed to break the stalemate.
Amethio: Gallade, [Psycho Cut]!
Gallade would go on to send out multiple psychic blades towards Ceruledge.
Liam: Cut them down! [Night Slash]!
Liam commanded, as Ceruledge's arm blades glow light blue and swung her blade, the cutting through several of the psychic blades.
Liam: Gotta do better than that!
Amethio growled, but he quickly regained his composure.
Amethio: Gallade, [Aerial Ace]!
Gallade charged forward, his blades glowing a sky blue, aiming directly for Ceruledge, Ceruledge raised her blade to defend but was caught off guard by the speed of the strike. The attack landed, sending Ceruledge tumbling back. At that moment, Ceruledge's speed would increase, along with her defense lowering as well.
Amethio's thoughts: [Weak Armor] as well?!
Liam's thoughts: We can't let him catch on to Liko and Friede. We need to make some distance...
Liam: Ceruledge, outside!
Ceruledge: Sol!
Liam said, quickly running out the warehouse and making his way to the rooftop. With a swift motion, Ceruledge scaled the nearest crates and leaped onto the rooftop of the warehouse, glancing back at Gallade defiantly.
Amethio: You're not getting away!
Amethio shouted, following Liam and Ceruledge, Gallade right behind him.
Amethio: [Night Slash]!
Gallade responded instantly, rushing forward.
Liam: [Bitter Blade]!
Ceruledge charged forward as well, the impact of their attacks sending shockwaves through the area. In a flurry of strikes, each attack met with a swift parry. Ceruledge and Gallade continued to trade blows, the intensity of the battle escalating with each clash. However just as the two broke apart, Amethio seized the moment.
Amethio: Gallade, [Shadow Sneak]!
As Gallade prepared his attack, Liam grinned seeing his opening.
Liam: Ceruledge, [Phantom Force]!
With a swift movement, Ceruledge vanished into the shadows, evading the incoming [Shadow Sneak]. Amethio's eyes widened in surprise, but before he could react, just as quickly, Ceruledge reappeared behind Gallade, her blade poised for the attack.
Liam: [Night Slash]!
Ceruledge: Blades!
Ceruledge struck with precision, the attack connecting and cutting through Gallade for super effective damage.
Amethio: Gallade!
Gallade: G-Gall...!
Gallade staggered, as he struggled to remain standing.
Amethio: Stay strong, Gallade!
Amethio urged, however Gallade's stance faltered, and he struggled to maintain his composure.
Ceruledge: Sol!
As Ceruledge was still ready to go, ready to continue the battle if need be. However Liam held his hand up, grabbing her attention.
Liam: That's enough, Ceruledge.
Ceruledge: Sol.
Liam: The match is over, Amethio.
It was clear to everyone who the winner was.
However...
Amethio: It's not over yet.
Liam: Hmm?
Amethio: It's not over.
Amethio wasn't ready to give up. A few moments later would his Gallade begin to get back on his feet.
Amethio: I won't give up until I've defeated you and taken the pendant!
Liam: That so? Sorry to inform you, but that's not happening.
As Liam began to respond, a Pokémon had suddenly leapt up to the roof, which was Liam's Arcanine.
Arcanine: Arc!
Liam: Arcanine?
It was Arcanine, who had gone with Liko and Friede to rescue Sprigatito. The fact that he had returned to Liam meant one thing.
Liam: I see. Good.
Looking towards Amethio, Liam would speak up.
Liam: Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but seems like we're done here.
Amethio: What?!
Without warning, the area filled with a massive amount of green leaves. This sight reminded Amethio of the [Leafage] attack he had seen once on top of the airship.
Amethio: No way!
Based on this scene and the conversation between Liam and Arcanine, Amethio was certain that Sprigatito had been set free.
Amethio: So, you were just a decoy to reclaim Sprigatito!
Liam: That's right. All I needed was to distract you. Since that's done-
Amethio: Do you think I'll let you go just like that?!
Amethio would growl, narrowing his eyes at Liam, who had recalled his Ceruledge.
Liam: Naturally, you would think so from your position...
Amethio's eyes conveyed his determination not to let them escape, no matter what. Normally, Liam might have continued the battle, but now he had responsibilities toward Liko, Sprigatito, and Friede.
Liam: But, sorry. We're on a tight schedule...
Arcanine, [Flamethrower]!
Arcanine: Arc!
As Arcanine would unleash a firey torrent towards both Amethio and Gallade, Gallade would block the blast, protecting Amethio, but being knocked out in the process. After this, Liam would mount Arcanine, before glancing back toward Amethio.
Liam: Well, we'll be taking our leave. But if you come after us again, I won't hold back. I'll defeat you every time.
Amethio: Gah...!
With that, Liam left and returned to the ship, leaving Amethio devastated and irritated.
Amethio: Liam... Next time, I will definitely defeat you...!
If his comrades had heard him, they would have been terrified. His voice was filled with
unparalleled anger and hatred.
(Timeskip)
After the battle with Amethio, Liam rode Arcanine towards the port where the Brave Olivine was docked.
Liam: Found it.
Due to the ship's immense size, it was easy to spot as they approached the port. As he got closer, he saw Liko and Sprigatito at the wharf.
Liam's thoughts: ...What are they doing?
Liko noticed Liam's presence and waved enthusiastically. Sprigatito, by her side, was jumping up and down in excitement.
Once they were near the ship, Arcanine leapt up onto it, as Liam would hop off him.
Liam: Hey, Li.-
Liko: Liam Senpai!
Before Liam could finish his sentence, Liko ran up and hugged him tightly.
Liam: Liko?
Liko: I'm so glad... I'm so glad you're okay...
Liam: ...
Liko's tearful voice revealed how worried she had been.
Liam: Sorry..... Did I worry you?
Liko: No... I knew you'd be okay, Senpai... I believed in you, but still...
With a sigh, Liam put his arms around Liko and gently patted her head from behind with a smile.
Liko: Ah...
Liam: ...I'm okay.
Liko was a kind girl. Even though Liam had taken on the role of decoy, he knew she was worried about him. Seeing her react like this made him feel a bit bad, but was glad that she trusted him.
Liam: Thank you for believing in me, Liko.
Liko: No... I'm the one who should be thanking you. Because you were there, I didn't lose hope... Because of your efforts, we got Sprigatito back. So... Senpai, thank you so much!
Liko, tears in her eyes but smiling, expressed her gratitude to Liam. Her smile shone brightly, different from the smiles Liam had seen at school. He could only stare at her in awe. But then -
Friede: Uh... sorry to interrupt. Is it okay now?
Friede and the others approached from behind Liko, changing the atmosphere instantly.
Murdock: The kids these days are really something, huh?
Orla: Murdock, you sound like an old man saying that...
Mollie: Ever since he came to the ship, I sensed a bit of that vibe, but I didn't expect it to go this far.
As the others exchanged their impressions while watching Liam and Liko with their interaction, Liko realized how bold she had been.
Orla: Sooooo... Are you two dating? If so, it makes sense why Liam tried so hard.
Liko: H-Huh..?!! N-No, we're not!!!
Brought back to her senses by Friede and the others, Liko quickly separated from Liam and started explaining.
Liko: I was just worried about Liam Senpai, that's all. We're not dating or anything like that... Liam Senpai, say something...!
Liam: She's right. We aren't dating. I'm just her friend and upperclassman....
Friede: Alright, alright, that's enough. We're ready to take off, so let's get moving before the Explorers catch up.
There was still a possibility that the Explorers were lurking nearby. As Friede said, they needed to leave the area as quickly as possible. Liam and Liko, having regained a bit of composure, followed his words and headed back to the ship.
After rescuing Sprigatito faster than expected, they had initially worried about whether the ship repairs were complete. However, thanks to the efforts of Orla, along with Murdock, Mollie, and the ship's Pokémon, they managed to finish the repairs and set sail before the Explorers could catch up.
Liam: So you came here to guard Liko from the start?
Friede: Yeah, it was a request from Liko's mother.
Liam: ...-_-... I feel like you could've said something like that instead of just kidnapping her....
Friede: Really? I thought we mentioned it.
Liam: ...-_-... No, you didn't...
Once the ship set sail, Liam finally got an explanation from Friede and the others about their original mission. Incidentally, Liko, perhaps still feeling embarrassed, had fled to the bow of the Brave Olivine as soon as they set sail.
Murdock: Friede...
Orla. You really are something...
Friede: Well, setting that aside, since we've taken on this job, we're planning to escort Liko back to her home in Paldea. Liam, what are you going to do?
Liam: Hmmm... That's a good question...
Liam had two paths to choose from. One was to part ways here and return to school. However, he had no intention of choosing this path. He didn't want to spend his time worrying about Liko while back at school. This left him with only the second option.
Liam: Depending on Liko's choice, if she decides to go with you, may I accompany you on your journey?
Friede: Are you sure? We might end up clashing with the Explorers again.
Liam: That's exactly what I want.
After all, Liam had just declared war on Amethio. Having said that, running away was not an option.
Mollie: Why not? I saw Liam battle Amethio, and both he and his Pokémon are really strong.
Friede: Yeah, he battled Amethio and came back in one piece. Liam's skill has already been proven. If you're prepared, I've got nothing more to say.
Liam: Friede...
Friede: Looking forward to working with you, Liam!
Just as Friede was about to extend his hand to Liam, the door to the bow opened, and Liko, holding Sprigatito, stepped out.
Liam: Oh, Liko.
Liko seemed more composed than before.
Liko: Um... I have something to say to everyone, including you, Liam Senpai.
Liko began to speak to everyone gathered on the deck, including Liam.
Liko: It's a bit late to say this now, but I've decided to trust all of you.
Friede: What? Were you doubting us?
Liam: ...-_-... You kidnapped her...Of course, anyone would be skeptical...
Friede: Fair point, fair point....
Liko: I don't understand what's happening to me, or why I'm being targeted because of the pendant... So, please, stay with me a little longer!
Liam's thoughts: So, she's made her decision...
In that case, Liam's answer—no, everyone's answer here-was already decided.
Friede: Alright... then I'll officially take it on. That was my intention from the start.
Liam: Of course, I'm in too.
Hearing this, Liko would look towards Liam surprised.
Liko: Really? Liam Senpai, you might not be able to go back to school for a while.
Liam: I'd be more worried about being left behind. Besides, I'm curious about the pendant and everything.
The pendant, Liko's connection to it, the Explorers' objective-there were too many mysteries.
Friede: Yeah, we want to know about the pendant too. Our mission is to uncover the mysteries of Pokémon and the world. We're known as the Rising Volt Tacklers!
That was who they really were: the Rising Volt Tacklers. Liam and Liko were now part of this group with a rather romantic mission.
Liam: Huh? "Rising Volt Tacklers"...?
Liko: Is that who you all are?
Friede: Really? We never mentioned it?
Liam and Liko: You didn't.
This was something they should have introduced at the very beginning. But it seemed like Friede's bad habit wasn't going away anytime soon. Liam and the others would just have to get used to it as they traveled together.
Murdock: Come on, now...
Mollie: You really didn't explain anything...
Orla: That makes us seem like a sketchy group...
Friede: My bad, my bad... Well, anyway, nice to meet you, Liko, Liam.
Friede extended his hand in a fist to Liam and
Liko, continuing from where they were interrupted earlier. Murdock, Orla, and Mollie followed suit.
Liam: Nice to meet you!
Liam and Liko followed, extending their hands for a fist bump and then shaking them up and down.
This was the hand sign of the Rising Volt Tacklers, marking the moment Liam and Liko became part of the group.
